Is it safe to walk to Sofi Stadium
I am hoping to go to the College Football Championship game on Jan 9, 2023 and am trying to navigate where to stay and how to get to Sofi stadium for the game. I have read that parking and traffic around the stadium is crazy and was wondering if it is safe to walk to the game. I have found an Airbnb to stay just east of 405 off of Century Blvd right by the Best Western Plus Suites. We don't mind walking 2 miles. I am just wondering if it will be safe to walk back to the house after the game which would probably be around 9:00-9:30 pm. Thanks. I am open to other ideas too. I have looked into taking the metro shuttle in also from the Hawthorne station but read the lines after the game are extremely long.

At that time of day, I wouldn't walk. Period.
I also wouldn't be trying to stay as close to SoFi as possible. I'd pick another location and try to take a Rally Ride. Or drive and have a parking reservation. The Hawthorne metro station is the same distance to your AirBnB as the stadium, so taking the metro shuttle doesn't help you. Or were you thinking of parking a car there? If that's the case, I'd take the metro shuttle. Lines will be long, but if they will probably move pretty fast. We've gone to the Rose Bowl game many times, and the post-game shuttle always looks worse than it is. https://rally.co/cfp-national-championship |
No you do NOT want to stay east of the 405 in that area.

I agree with Jean and jamie99. It's a big NO.
I wonder what is left at this late date. Maybe try El Segundo since they have connections to the Green Line, with a Station at Mariposa and Nash. At least it would be relatively safe to walk there. The Hilton Garden Inn is right next door but it is more expensive than a few of the hotel/motels on Sepulveda eg the Extended Stay. |
Thanks for the great info
I think I am going to stay in the Torrance area then since we will have a car and just reserve parking close to Sofi. Has anyone by chance stayed at the Best Western Avita Suites before? Looks like it has good ratings. I am also open to suggestions for other areas within 20 minutes of Sofi.

Better plan.
That BW+ property is very near the Del Amo Shopping Center and only 10 miles from the stadium... There are lots of dining options in a wide range of price points in the immediate area. Traffic on the 405 north before the game will be very heavy in that area because of LAX. It's called the "South Bay Curve" if you hear references on radio traffic reports. But you could also drive north on Prairie or Hawthorne all the way to the stadium. Give yourselves lots of time to reach the stadium and find your parking. Easily 30-40 minutes. Most people will be out-of-towners, so confusion, impatience, etc. I'd go early anyway for the tailgate starting at 10:00a for all ticket holders. https://collegefootballplayoff.com/s...-tailgate.aspx Have a great time! |
It's sort of a long way from Inglewood in traffic, but nothing really wrong with that area as far as safety, just kind of blah (lots of apartments, fast food joints, etc.). My Kaiser is right around the corner. There is a Mitsuwa Market at the back of the mall, and Madrona Marsh nearby is a gated, safe place for walking when it's open. More restaurants on Sepulveda Blvd (including King's Hawaiian). The last time I was at the Del Amo mall complex was to pick something up from Crate and Barrel. Haven't been inside since prepandemic but it was not very good then.
Be sure you can reserve a parking space before going with that option. |
