Is it safe to walk from Train Station in Seattle to Pike Place Market?

It is about a 1 mile walk from the train station to Pike Place Market- and a friend wants to walk to the market place to meet me...

She will be training up and I want to make sure it is a safe area for her to walk in..

All help will be appreciated>>>

Just to keep this close to top. A lot of commuters ride the Sounder in in the morning and walk up town. I guess it depends on what time her train arrives. Plus, after Seattle wakes up, I'm sure you will have some better replies.

I think it's safe to walk from the train station to Pike Place Market. As long as it's not midnight. During the day, it's fine.

I would walk this route any time, but I agree that a woman should probably not do this at night. A certain number of 'undesireables' come out in the Pioneer Square area.

It's perfectly safe to walk, but there is free bus service available. There is an entrance to a tunnel at First and Jackson where your friend can catch a free bus to Westlake Mall and from there she can walk over to the Pike Place Market. Have fun.

Here's a good story.
About 9 years ago I was attending a large convention in Seattle. I decided to walk down to the market on my lunch break. I felt very safe - all kinds of people were out and walking around.
I heard a screech and a police car came to an abrupt halt about 10 feet from me and the cop jumped out and apprehended a young man who was about to grab my purse.
By the time I figured out what was going on it was all over!!
And who says you can't find a cop when you need one?
