Is it safe to drive through Ohio right now?

My son will be driving down I 71 to Rt 13 to 661. (Basically heading from Rt 271 near Cleveland to Granville OH, just north of Columbus.) Watching the flooding CNN is making me nervous! What do you think?

I'm wondering the same thing. We are headed down from MI to Cleveland tomorrow via the turnpike.

If you go to maps.yahoo.com, at the very top of the map you'll see a checkbox for "live traffic." You'll be able to map his route and see if there are any road closures due to flooding or landslides. At first glance it looks like his route is pretty clear.

SuzieTrue, I think the bad stuff is well south of your route. I'm in Cleveland and it's not bad here at all.

Thanks karameli!

For any others, I found this site which shows where the road closures are (under "category" choose "flooding"). The only questionable spot I saw is on route 13 near Mansfield, but it isn't listed this morning.

wliwl - your son wouldn't be headed to Denison U. would he? My DW and DD left yesterday to drive to Dennison and have been told they should have no problems (although they're coming from the south). But one of her classmates drove from Akron this week and didn't have any problems.

Yup! Denison it is! :)

He just called -- so I was worried -- and it was to tell me he had just passed the Weiner Mobile. LOL

wliwl - glad it sounds like he's fine. DD will be a sophomore at Denison. Right now they've been diverted off of I40 somewhere in Tenn due to some massive wreck/construction - but no rain or weather problems.

He made it! He reported that he saw a lot of very high rivers, but no actual flooding. He also says it is REALLY hot there and his dorm is steaming.
