Is it possilbe to do a day trip from Maui to Oahu?

First let me say this board is great.

My question really involves whether or not it is economical, time wise, to try a do a day trip from Maui to Oahu. We will be staying at the Hyatt and would like to see Pearl Harbor and some of the other traditional tourist spots on Oahu. Does anyone know if it may be better to go out of the airport closer to West Maui or does OGG offer the fastest way to and from Oahu. Any airline suggestions would also be helpful.

Thanks a bunch,

Tom

Tom,

The Hyatt concierge can book a daytrip to Oahu with Roberts Hawaii for you. You would leave from Kahalui, and Roberts has excellent prices. People do it all the time!

Hey Tom,

I live on Maui, and doing a day trip can be done. It only takes about 45 minutes from the Kahului airport to Oahu. Roundtrip, it costs about $140. The two major airlines are Aloha Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines - I think they have websites that might quote you prices! Have a nice trip :)

Definately do the Roberts Hawaii trip Tom, they will supply the 'ground transport' as well as the flight, they have little tour buses which is more time effective than renting a car, getting directions, getting lost etc. Have a ball

The problem here Tom is that for the Roberts trips you have to get up at 4-5 in the morning. We saw Roberts people doing a day trip on Kauai last summer they were wiped. They did say it was worth it. I tend to think less is more when you are traveling. Pearl Harbor is a great trip, the Park Rangers do a brilliant job of telling you the history in true story telling style. It is a tear jerker and a memorable experience. But once you get to the park you have to wait a few hours before you get to actually hear the talk, walk the walk. Imagine being dead tire and walking around the grounds for two hours. Everyone has to deal with this wait. You can not pre order your tickets and travel agencies have no less clout. Call and see if your story is different. It is a priority call. Good quetion to ask on your trip is how the bombing impacted life on Oahu after December 7. In particular, what happened to the people of Japanese ancestory?
