Is it possible to walk to North End of Boston?
 

From the Boston downtown/Quincy Market area?

It's steps away. A nothing walk.

Last time I was there the big dig made it a little confusing to negotiate over to the North End, but there were signs, and of course lots of others doing the same thing. It was about a 20 minute walk.

zootsi is either talking about downtown, or a very slow walker. As Ann indicated, Quincy Marketplace literally borders on the North End. Boston is a very compact, wwalkable city! Sera, please promise us you'll get a map before your trip.

You do have to walk under the Expressway but its nothing from Quincy Market. Literally a stone's throw to get to Hanover St.

Thanks, folks. And, yes, I'll have a map with me. I ordered Steetwise Boston from Amazon. I've actually been to Boston a lot over the years, but somehow missed the North End.

I don't know how it is now, but when I was there about 10 months ago the regular underpass to the North End was closed off, and we had to take a roundabout route several blocks out of the way.

They have been working on that area of Boston since I was a kid, and lets just say that was a LONG time ago. I remember my parents going into Boston to the market for meat and veggies close to Quincy Market and back then it was all warehouse, and not a great area of town, now it is a crowning jewel to Boston.

There is lots to see in the North End, like Old North Church, and tons of wonderful restaurants.

As everyone else has mentioned it's very close to the Market just follow the crowds toward the tunnel and the North End is just to the left of the Tunnel.

Just walk north from Quincy Market, up Canal Street, toward the Fleet Center and North Station. Then turn right and you are easily there. As someone that lives in Boston, when I go from downtown to the north end, I always walk.
