Is it possible to see "Merchant of Venice" next week, or am I naive ??
I need advice and help from NY theatre-goers. I will be in New York with my husband
Dec1, 2, and 3. We would love to see "The Merchant of Venice" but hear it's impossible to get tickets. How would I go about even finding out if any tickets are available ?? Do I call the theatre? or a ticket agency? ( I have the feeling the Times Square half price tickets would not have any.) Any idea about price, seating, etc would be very much appreciated . If we sound like novices in the NY theatre world, we are !!!! Thank you all so much .

If you go to telecharge - the official seller - you will find out if there are any tickets (chances next to none). Then you try the scalpers to see what tickets they may have and if you're wiling to pay the prices. We usually use stubhub.com, which is reliable (tickets are not fakes). Expect anything to be big $$$ - as in double or triple the face value at this late date.

It is almost always possible to get tickets if you're willing to pay enough. Assuming you can't get them from a scalper and are staying in a hotel ask you concierge what they can do. But then you have to pay the huge price plus a large tip - $100 or more - to the concierge.

Telecharge is the official ticket seller
Go to Telecharge's website
http://www.telecharge.com
Choose NYC-Broadway and Merchant of Venie
Enter your date range and quantity
See what comes up. Wed tix are available.
Release those tickets to look at the next day.
Thursday tickets are available.
If that's confusing, call Telecharge and talk to a real person.

They also have a lottery every night. I can't remember how many tickets the lady said they offered every night, nor do I know where the seats are. I think they take names for half an hour starting at 5:30 and then offer them at 6. But double-check on the times and I was in line on a Thursday. When I got there to try and get a ticket at 6ish, I was 2nd in line, the last lottery alternative was buying their tickets and there were no other tickets available although they were offering standing room tickets.
