is it possible to drive the entire coastal length of california (over 700 miles) without encountering any beach areas that are either privately owned, government lands, etc??....and even if such lands are zoned off from public access, is it still possible to view (with the naked eye, or with binoculars, etc) the last "public" beach area you left and the next beach area youre about to access after having to drive around prohibited beach areas. Im an avid lover of California and have always dreamt of driving down the entire coast someday, but realize that theres a chance that some wealthy folks may have bought up stretches of beach areas making such a drive impossible for anyone who would like to see the full coastline of California.

Due to topography, need for ways around hills and bridges you cannot drive within sight of the ocean for the entire length of the state.

Vandenberg AFB is an area where you are not permitted access along the coastline.

As mlgb says, there are certain areas where the road has to go inland due to geography and there are other areas where private or government property blocks access to the ocean. Diablo Canyon power plant is another place - near San Luis Obispo - where you can't access the coast.

Well, you have a big problem when you encounter Camp Pendleton Marine Base.

Isn't there an area way up at the north of the state that is not accessible because the mountains are so close to the sea?

Many places are inaccessible -- not because of 'wealthy folks', but because there are no roads.

You asked a similar question on your other thread - assuming that beaches are off limits because of 'rich people'. That isn't a problem. Geography is . . .
