Is It Necessary to Purchase Mount Vernon Tickets Ahead?

We are thinking about visiting Mount Vernon on the afternoon of Friday, July 26. If we don't purchase the timed tickets for entry, will we have a huge line to buy tickets? I hate being tied into a certain time and would prefer to see how everyone feels about going when we are there.

We did not buy ahead, but we did get there early in order to beat the busses of munchkins. We walked up and bought tickets and walked down to the house

Thanks Rich. Unfortunately, we won't be able to get there until after lunch.

There might be a break in the march of the munchkins later . . I can't say. I guess your choices are advance purchase or pot luck . .
