Is Int'l Marketplace closed?
I read somewhere else that it might be closed for renovations. Anyone know if it is indeed closed? Thanks.

Hi MrTraveler, I remember reading the International Market Place (Waikiki right?) was going to close down for renovation..but don't remember when, "think is was middle of 2006. Go on Google and research this if you don't get any answer here.

If you are talking about the Int'l Marketplace in Waikiki, it is open. I was just there last night.
|
The renovations were put on hold because of the cost. It's still open.

And it still has those on velvet paintings which I first saw there in 1965!!!!

Will be going to Honolulu in less than a month and was pleased to find out the International Market Place is still open (found out from a friend who lives there). I too read the details about razing the whole thing and replacing it with conventional type stores, restaurants, etc. Sure it's sort of tacky, but there are bargains to be found, and a place to grab a quick, inexpensive bite to eat. Even watch a show if you're there at the right time.
Who needs more high end stores (I think every French/Italian designer known to man have stores in the area). To me after passing Hermes, Gucci, L. Vuiton, it's a delight to enter the IMP and watch the koi, shop for jewelry and other fun treasures available there, and bargain with the sellers, rather than being eyed by a snobby clerk in one of the designer shops. It's my kind of place! |
I agree somewhat with the above poster, however if you've been intimidated in ANY of those so-called "high end" stores in Waikiki we need to do some confidence building.

Who's we? I'm pretty comfortable with my self-confidence.
