Fox is a discount rental car agency. They do a professional job with the resources they make available. They are still growing unlike larger rivals like Avis/Budget & Enterprise. Keep in mind that because Fox is a discounter, the service compared to an Enterprise will be noticeably much less. I have used both & while I prefer the customer service that Enterprise provides, sometimes I just want a cheap car for a day. Some of the stories about any agency can be true, so if you hear of one that concerns you, ask the staff a scenario question & see what their response is. You don't need to have an accusatory attitude, just mention a what if... & judge by their response. An example of my true issue with Fox, was the car that I rented today, while my car is being serviced. I opened the door to the Fox car on their lot & was treated to the heavy smell of skunk. What would you expect ?

"They are still growing unlike larger rivals like Avis/Budget & Enterprise."

Are you deranged? Are you suggesting Avis/Budget and Enterprise are "shrinking"? Sure, and Apple is on the verge of bankruptcy.

A month after my rental at Denver International Airport, I got a bill for $115. Apparently I "declined" the "Plate Pass Tolling Option" at the time of rental. Nobody mentioned it to me -- or that the main road leading to the airport is a toll road. So I unknowingly incurred a $16 toll -- and they added on nearly $100 in administrative fees!! The agent did ask about car insurance -- and kept insisting that I needed their insurance despite the fact that my regular policy covers rental. There was no agent at the airport desk, no one answered the phone, I had to wait in a long line to get the car when I finally found their office, the agent was surly -- and then they charged me an extra $100. Horrible experience. Stay away.

We used them in San Fran for first time-NEVER AGAIN! waited on line for over 1.5 hrs- total bait and switch routine was being used on everyone. we ended up paying much more - could have used hertz and had car immediately.

"They make $150 if you get locked out. I am sure a good percentage of their customers get locked out."

You really think a "good percentage of their customers" are so dumb they actually get out of the car with the key in it and the engine running and then close the doors? Seriously? And this is something they deliberately "rigged"?

Meanwhile, I'm really curious. You say they are charging you for damages, but you refused to pay and got a ride and just left the car there without paying them? Ummm. Don't they have a credit card on file? What do you expect them to do now -- just ignore the damage and charges?

I don't think I've ever had a car that would lock its doors automatically, with the key in the ignition, and the engine running, if the car isn't moving.

Whether it was rigged on purpose or not, I wonder why that would happen, unless there's a fault with the car.

I can think of a few times that I've stepped out of a running vehicle and closed the door for a minute. It happens.
