Is early May a good time to visit Savannah ?

I initially planned to visit Savannah in late April, but found that it was impossible to get myself settle in a hotel/inn in the historical district. Look like I either postphone my visit to early May or change the location. Can anyone tell me if early May is a good time to visit Savannah ? how is the weather ? any speical events ? Thanks in advance for your input.

Early May would be divine. Savannah has the same weather as Charleston and Charleston schedules its premier arts festival Spoleta during that time. BTW come visit.

It's a great time. IMO almost anytime is a great time to visit Savannah. Avoid the city around St Patrick's Day if you don't like crowds and the summers can be hot and humid. But spring and fall are divine times to visit and many go in winter because winter is very moderate along the coast.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks Starrs.

If I wanted to visit both Charleston and Savannah, will 2-week be enough, or is 2-week stay too long for either place ? if I do not drive, how can I travel between Sanvannah and Charleston ? what are the flight connections from Charleston to West Coast, or NY and/or Chicago ?

Thanks for your suggestions and advices.

The good news is Charleston is now served through Southwest Airlines. Nice planes, low fairs and no baggage fees for checked bags. Two weeks would be great. It would give you a week at both.

Thanks palmettoprincess.

Do you mean I can flight Southwest Airlines to Charleston to/from West Coast, or NY or Chicago ?

If I do not drive, what is transportation between Charleston and Sanvannah ?

Does United Airlines serve Charleston and Sanvannah ?

My plan is

West Coast/NY/Chicago -> Charleston -> Sanvannah -> West Coast/NY/Chicago

or

West Coast/NY/Chicago -> Sanvannah -> Charleston -> West Coast/NY/Chicago

Which is better rounting, please ?

Either is fine. Charleston and Savannah are only 100 miles apart. I'm not understanding the West Coast/NY/ Chicago part though.

Unfortunately, your only options if you don't drive are to ride the bus (slow) or take the train. The train/bus station that serves Charleston is in North Charleston. You'll need to get a taxi to take you there. Schedule during daylight hours if you can.

Thanks Sue.

Depending on the seat availabe, I will consider to leave either from East Coast ie from NY or Chicago or or from West Coast.

I have checked United yesterday, it looks like that the seat is not much in early May.

I found two full days in Savannah and three full days in Charleston was a good amount of time to spend, especially without a car. With a car to visit a few of the outlying attractions, a week total for both is fine.

You can take the train or bus between these two cities if you don't want to drive. Definitely take the taxi from the North Charleston station to the Historic District, as North Charleston is generally not a good area, in my experience.

There are parts of North Chuck that are nice. The bus/train station neighborhood is not one of them.
