Is baseball on in LA in August/September?

Dad's with 3 teenage girls (11,14,15) would love to see a live sports game last week in August, to first 2 weks in Septmeber. Don't know the seasons, but is there a baseball game on? Basketball? Other? If so how do we go about getting tickets to the game?

Thanks

Yes there will be baseball. Los Angeles Dodgers are at home Aug 23-28 and Sep 4-14. The California Angels (in Anaheim) will be home Aug 30 through Sep 4 nand Aug 15-25. Games on all of those dates. The San Diego Padres baseball team will also be at home for some period during your visit.

You can get schedule and ticket info at www.mlb.com You can buy tickets to Dodgers games now at that site and the send you the ticktets by e-mail. On the day of the game, good seats can be bought from scalpers. Otherwise, I would expect seats to be available, at least for the weekday games.

Looks like the e-mail option is only for US customers. Here is other shipping info:

For US customers, they also send via UPS and standard mail.

For Canada customers, they will send the tix by standard mail. No additional charge.

For International Orders Only - Tickets held at Will Call can only be retrieved by the cardholder with original credit card of purchase and a valid photo ID with signature such as a government issued ID, driver s license or passport. A charge of $2.50 per order.

Just be awarre that these are large stadia - 55-60,000 people and most of te good seats are bought on a seasonal basis by businesses. If you want a chance at decent tickets you should try to to order them as soon as possible - other wise you will see very little without binoculars.

The San Diego Padres' new ballpark, Petco Field, seats 42,445. It is one of the new-style "intimate" ballparks. I have to say that even when the Padres played at Qualcomm stadium, I never had to take binoculars to see what was happening on the field.

I know that didn't look right, it's Petco Park. Forgot the alliteration!

From your other threads you are also going to SF. I would try for tickets to a San Francisco Giants game. PacBell Park (I refuse to say SBC) is an amazing place right in the middle of the city and the views/ball park amenities are terrific.

An addition to Janis' post. The Giants draw very well and I would suggest you get tickets ahead of time. No basketball in Aug/Sept. No football in L.A. - they haven't had a team for years which is no source of endless frustration to the N.F.L. Of course, these are the same people who've put the next Super Bowl in Detroit in Feb. Should be nice and warm there.

As of now - no hockey either. Seems those chaps don't know one end of a hockey stick from the other and canceled the entire season. Next season is up in the air.
