The Austin Real Estate listing system (MLS) can be searched online at www.mls-austin.com. I don't think it actually gives you house addresses, but it will give you a feel for what is available in your price range. Not sure if this MLS covers RR (which is in Williamson County) or if they have a different MLS.

$100 - $150 definitely means the suburbs, and as others have mentioned, the commute is horrendous.

Of the 3 places you mention, I'd pick Kyle. It is south of Austin, which I have always preferred. RR schools have suffered a bit with the huge increase in population. I personally don't care much for RR. There are a few niche subdivisions there, but not much charm. Leander is much too far to drive IMHO. RR would be almost an hour commute in the AM and Leander a bit more. Kyle perhaps 40 minutes. Much depends on what time you have to be at work. I've always worked 7 or 7:30 AM - 3:30 or 4 to beat the traffic. If you can do that then it will help.

There are tons of activities for everyone in Austin. You might check out www.austin360.com for news, events, etc. to get an idea.

Austin winters are mild. The worst is the usual ice storm or two in February when everything closes down. You can almost bet on it. October and March/April are the nicest times to visit. I suggest you visit mid Augutst to determine if you like our summers, which start around early May and end sometime in September... However we are having an awful heatwave. Yesterday and today were both 109. Unusual, yes. We are having a cold front on Thrs. and highs will only be in the 80's. :-)

Thank you all for your input. I look forward to visiting Austin in March. If anyone has more comments, suggestions, or advice, feel free to add on. I welcome any advice you have to offer.
