is august the worst travel month?
 

It seems to me that August is a very popular month to get married. Then where does everybody go for their honeymoon? It seems like it's the hurricane season, the rainy season, the humid season. <BR>Besides Hawaii...which we've already been to and were hoping to go somewhere different...I can't think of a single sunny place that we'd like to go to. Any thoughts on the matter? <BR>I'll stop whining soon I swear.

Caitlin- <BR> <BR>Does this mean that you've ruled out Lake Tahoe? YOur weather concerns won't be an issue there,but if you're spending a full week, you might get a little bored. Well, maybe not since it's your honeymoon. <BR> <BR>We couldn't decide what do for a honeymoon so we combined ideas. We went on a 7-day cruise and then spent several days on Martha's Vineyard. Both are very sunny choices! We loved Martha's Vineyard. We stayed at the Charlotte Inn in Edgartown. It was the perfect spot for a honeymoon. I understand the inn is still wonderful. <BR> <BR>You could also consider Cape Cod or the coast of Maine. The Northern California coast around Carmel and Monterey is beautiful and there are many luxury lodging choices. <BR> <BR>I hope you find a place that is perfect for you!

Thanks Sal- <BR>No, Tahoe isn't out of the running. It's just not quite there yet. We may need to do what you did and combine a trip. I'll definitely look into the east coast places. We live on the west coast and I've never been to cape cod before. A honeymoon would probably be a good time to check that out. We just really want to relax and kick back. this whole wedding/honeymoon planning is like a full-time job! <BR>I appreciate your pleasant responses. I half-expected someone to write back something rude because of how much of a baby I was being in this last post. I'm just getting frustrated!!! <BR>Anyway, I'll let you know what I decide. Caitlan - Is Europe totally out of the running? A week in and around Paris, or maybe some time near Lake Como? Europe is such a romantic place and would be a perfect destination for an August honeymoon.

Yeah. I kinda think Europe is out of the question. We've got a small budget and we're way over on the west coast. Plus we were kinda hoping for minimal plane-sitting, travel-time. <BR>Good ideas though.

I got married in September and we wanted to go to the Caribbean. We chose Aruba because it has a very consistant climate and is out of the hurricane zone. It's in the Southern Caribbean and is actually more desert than tropical. The weather was wonderful. 85, sunny and dry everyday. <BR> <BR>2 couples we know married in August and they chose St. Lucia and Hawaii. They both said the weather was great.

I second the motion for the Cape, and maybe you could add a night or two in Newport, RI (just NOT on the weekend- too crowded that time of year), especially if you have never been to this part of the country. Also, although it is hurricane season in the Caribbean, a cruise is not out of the question as the ships can generally avoid hurricanes (although it can mean altering the port of calls during the trip).

Hmmmm....We're liking the cape cod thing more and more. Although, we're not much for giant crowds. But, let's face it. Summertime there are a lot of crowds in the sunnier places. I also like the St. Lucia idea. Originally that's one of the places we wanted to go, but we were deterred because of the weather. I wonder...maybe I should do more research on that. <BR>Man we just have too many options!!!

caitlin <BR>My husband and I were married in august and went to tahiti and bora bora. It is kind of pricey, but since you are already on the west coast you might do ok. We had EXCELLENT weather the entire trip! I would avoid St. Lucia, my sister-in-law honeymooned there during hurricane season and it rained their entire trip. Good luck.

You might check into Cape May NJ, as I've heard it is very quaint, quiet, and not as tourity as Cape Cod. I've never been there, but friend in NYC love it there. It's a bit less pricey than Cape Cod also. Check out www.thejerseycape.net. Just an idea of something different.

Okay, here's something really off the wall: the Greenbriar in West Virginia. spend a couple of nights there, then head over and drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway. Maybe go to DC. <BR>Second option: Quebec. <BR>Third Option: Jackson, Wyoming.

Have you considered Jamaica? It's a wonderful romantic relaxing place. Try an all inclusive resort - couples only - Negril is less crowded than Ocho Rios. The prices aren't bad either - cheaper than Hawaii!
