Is anyone else having trouble loading this web site?

Is it just me, or is this site taking FOREVER to load lately? I haven't seen it this slow in at least a year...Posting is near impossible, and I'm also unable to select threads consistently--getting lots of 569 messages. What gives?! This site has clearly lost a lot of posters due to registration, but how many have been driven away by technical difficulties?

E - Have been having the exact same trouble since friday. I emailed Fodors about this on 1/31, but have heard NOTHING back.

Tried to post 3 times..here is what I get:
We're so sorry, we're currently unable to display the page you requested. That URL may have expired, or we may be working feverishly on that particular part of our site.

We recommend that you either use your browser's BACK button, or start fresh at the Fodors.com home page.

Thanks.

Yes--something's wrong with the site.

Kath Feb 4th, 2003 06:13 AM

I have had the same problem. Plus my posts actually show up only about 20% of the time. Way to ruin the site there Fodor's. Did you consider testing any of this before you rolled it out?

It's been a real bear this morning.

First there were problems with posting (and there may still be) and now it's difficult to get onto the site.

Fodors needs to jump on this situation real quick.

YES!!~!!!

~~now - will this post?????????????

Ugghhhhhhhhhhhh........

EdnaB Feb 4th, 2003 07:41 AM

I noticed it had been down all night, but was so excited when I logged on and posted one reply which was accepted instantly. I thought maybe they had all the problems fixed. But I've tried to post twice more. One took me three attempts and copying and pasting so as not to lose it. And now each time I switch sites or post anything, I lose the entire screen. I guess they didn't get anything fixed.

Now to see if I can get this to post.

Travel Talk was down for several hours this morning. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Please be assured that we are working feverishly to fix the problem that is making it difficult for some of you to post a message or a reply. Thank you for your continued patience.

Sincerely,
Caragh Rockwood
senior editor
Ahhh - yep, me to. What gives?!!

This is terribly disappointing. I was one of those who endorsed registration because I saw no alternative methods of dealing with the flamethrowers and semi-literate, abusive, meatheads who were infesting the site. I may have been wrong. They're gone, but so is much of the wit that made the boards so interesting.

It's apparent to me, looking at the whole scope of Fodors' travel-related activities, that they do not regard the travel forums as a significant aspect of their business. The forums appear to be regarded as an entertainment-diversion, a "throwaway" if you will. The problems they're having with the switchover reinforce me in my belief; I agree with a previous poster that they didn't do their homework here, but are doing it on the fly. And dspite the protestations of their systems people, it's equally apparent to me that they're not devoting a hell of a lot of professional firepower to the site. Bad news for the rest of us. I'm going to give this a rest for a couple of weeks and then check back to see if there are significant improvements. Right now, this is a waste of time.

DES

Lots of problems yesterday and by last night nothing appeared on the screen when I tried to access any of the talk sites. This am I have had trouble posting. I did send the editors an e-mail last night about the problems. Too bad I say..part of the fun was popping on and off the site. Hopefully this gets resolved.

I sure hope they fix the problems. This is frustrating.

utahtea Feb 4th, 2003 09:09 AM

Yes, it is frustrating but any new system will take time to get the bugs out of it.

Give fodors site a little time to get back on it's feet! I've found it to be one of the best and most active travel forums around. I'm sure things will get back to normal soon.

No I'm not an emloyee of fodors but I do have a son who writes computer programs for other companies message boards. These things take time to get the bugs out of them.

Utahtea
