Is any body else upset?

I understand that the editors are aware and working on the problem most people are having posting and submitting comments, But does anyone know when the problem will be fixed and what the problem is?

janisj Nov 10th, 2017 09:27 AM

it apparently isn't 'most people' since lots of responses are being submitted. They do know about it and per the Help Forum are working on it. Even tech support probably doesn't know how long it will take . . .

Dukey1 Nov 10th, 2017 10:41 AM

I guess that's THE answer then, isn't it? because a whole bunch of people (and mostly the same ones) are posting then there couldn't possibly be "that many" who are affected.

starrs Nov 10th, 2017 10:47 AM

I'm not upset.

It's a forum. You get what you pay for. ;)

Seriously, I think they are getting ready to move us to a new platform and there are glitches as they run tests. That's normal. They can run tests on production sites but at some point they have to go live.

There are a few dozen people reporting problems but that's far from a majority of users. What would you prefer - shutting down the entire forum for a few days/weeks? I suppose that's always an option but not the norm.

NewbE Nov 10th, 2017 12:42 PM

I know what I'd prefer: that these discussions be confined to the Help Forum, where they belong.

fmpden Nov 10th, 2017 01:59 PM

There are a lot of things to be be upset about in life. This is not one of them. This site could go dark tomorrow and my life would continue with little impact.

thursdaysd Nov 10th, 2017 08:10 PM

Why on earth do you think that posters know when a technical problem is going to be fixed? And why post here as well as on the Help Forum, which is where this belongs?

John Nov 11th, 2017 07:58 AM

FMPDEN: Well said!!!

suze Nov 11th, 2017 08:01 AM

Maybe because no one reads the Help Forum.

thursdaysd Nov 11th, 2017 08:11 AM

The people in charge of actually fixing this problem DO read the Help Forum, just go take a look.

Inakauaidavidababy Nov 11th, 2017 08:27 AM

Nanabee, don't listen to the numpkins who tell you there are more important things in life to get upset about. You've been a participant in this community for many years and have every good reason to be frustrated. We were told in June that big changes were coming in a few weeks. We are well into November with only continued glitches and no explanation.

Jean Nov 11th, 2017 09:33 AM

I hear the stamping of little feet.

fmpden Nov 11th, 2017 09:59 AM

.....You've been a participant in this community for many years and have every good reason to be frustrated.....

Why???? It is just a travel discussion web site. One of many. I have been here a year longer than Nanabee and am not particularly frustrated by this site. It is what it is. If the site goes dark tomorrow, I will move on to another site. If this site is that important to your life, I truly feel sorry for you.

Christina Nov 11th, 2017 01:34 PM

I agree with Starrs, it's a free website, I think getting upset is getting too involved in an internet forum. I suspect it does have something to do with them migrating to a new system. And personally, I haven't had a single problem posting on any computer I have or any OS. I can use my work computer or my home computer, Chrome or Mozilla, never had a single problem and I've posted at least several responses in the last few days, probably 5-10. So I guess it would be hard for me to get upset about something I don't experience.

marvelousmouse Nov 11th, 2017 11:18 PM

No

marvelousmouse Nov 11th, 2017 11:19 PM

This is so infuriating. Why did that work?

marvelousmouse Nov 11th, 2017 11:20 PM

Anyway, as others have said- free forum. Doesn’t really matter. The mystery is driving me craaaaaazy though.

1IntrepidTraveler Nov 12th, 2017 05:02 AM

I'm upset! I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore... (with apologies to "Network".)

sassy27 Nov 12th, 2017 06:31 AM

Try looking at from the side of those who can't reply. You might feel and think differently as it is frustrating to not reply and have a voice. Sometimes replying works and sometimes it doesn't.

suze Nov 12th, 2017 07:44 AM

Frustrating yes. Upset no. But then again I can post ;-)

I'm pretty darn sure it has something to do with the upgrade to the new format that they've been working on, wouldn't you think?

suze Nov 12th, 2017 08:25 AM

OK i did go "take a look" at the Help Forum. But I only see more posts from people who can't post. I don't see any explanation givene.

suze Nov 13th, 2017 03:21 PM

Oh I see iBobi and amanda_b have both posted some news from behind the scenes about this issue. And linked them at the top of each forum. Thanks guys!!

NewbE Nov 13th, 2017 07:32 PM

On the bright side, it seems that one of our Secret Moderators was hiding in plain sight all this time...interesting. Shows how stiff the competition was for the position, lol!

NewbE Nov 13th, 2017 08:01 PM

Oh, and before anyone--ahem--jumps in saying it's two sided, the comment that was deleted didn't reference our Secret Mod. It was just a plea to keep this subject in the forum in which it belongs. Which was offensive enough to be deleted, lol.

The logical result? A forum in which only one person can post, and talk to herself, as she is so very wont to do.

And, curtain!

NewbE Nov 13th, 2017 08:09 PM

And yes, btw, I AM upset at "moderation" that deletes comments without, well, comment. They have my email. How about a notice: "Your comment <X> was deleted because it violates <X> policy of ours. Direct questions to management."

Anyone want to bet that all of my comments will be deleted by morning? While spam inside threads goes undeleted unless a reader flags it?

NewbE Nov 13th, 2017 08:20 PM

Honestly, those of you refusing to look at the Help Forum, fsr, are missing some hilarity. I mean, you can't make this stuff up: replies that say "I can't reply" are evergreen, but the ones that are basically the typed equivalent of a foot stamping hissy fit are my personal favorite.

NewbE Nov 13th, 2017 08:27 PM

OK, I've read most of the first 25 threads on the Help Forum, all of them devoted to The Issue, and the upshot is: it's not fixed, except for some people it is, and for others it was and now isn't.

Also, many people are posting the word "test", with some variations.

If the "moderators" want to discourage people from encouraging people to go the Help Forum, I figure I can provide updates here, if that's cool.

NewbE Nov 13th, 2017 08:29 PM

While scouring other forums for information, I found this thread, which is my new favorite:
https://www.fodors.com/community/europe/tech-test.cfm

IB: Don't reply to this!
Fodorite: OK.

NewbE Nov 13th, 2017 08:53 PM

This is just one example of spam inside a thread:
https://www.fodors.com/community/uni...or-parking.cfm

I flagged it about 12 hours ago.

NewbE Nov 13th, 2017 09:19 PM

Ooh, they’re deleting me already! You’d think precious resources would be focused on The Issue. Maybe our newly revealed Secret Mod did the deletion though.

Fortunately, I am copying all my posts and will repost them if deleted. The “moderators” know where to reach me if they would like to communicate more rationally.

NewbE Nov 13th, 2017 09:23 PM

The Secret Mod thing seems so obvious now. The fulsome praise for IB staff, the authoritative tone springing from no noticeable authority, and my god, the sheer ubiquity!

emalloy Nov 14th, 2017 03:46 AM

testing

Inakauaidavidababy Nov 14th, 2017 08:34 AM

What an odd 2 hour rage.

NewbE Nov 14th, 2017 08:55 AM

I am shocked all my posts are still here, lol. Perhaps calling out bad "moderation" in a flamboyant manner is the solution??

suze Nov 14th, 2017 08:58 AM

Perhaps no one knows what the heck you are talking about so let them stand.

What in the world "seems so obvious now" to you?
