Is AC needed on Maui in July?
 

We are having trouble finding oceanfront condos in low rise buildings with air conditioning. It seems that only the high rises have it. Even Kapalua oceanfront villas don't have it. If anyone has been to Maui in July, is it really uncomfortable without AC?

It depends on a number of factors. I think there was a post about a similar topic about 8-9 months ago regarding air conditioning. Anyhow, July is fairly hot. If you are coming from a more northern climate, like Michigan, you will want air conditioning. If you live in the south, without air, you should be fine without it. You will get some breeze off the ocean all year. I live on Oahu - without air conditioning - but at a high elevation. I took a trip to Maui in July and stayed in Kaanapali - we were happy to have air conditioning, even though we are used to hot weather. Some parts of the island are cooler than others. You might check worldclimate.com , or a similar site to see avarege temps. for the part of the island on which you plan to stay. <BR>Hope this helps.

I think it would be preposterous to go <BR>to an unaircondtioned hotel or motel in <BR>Hawaii in July and not have the benefit <BR>of air conditioning!! <BR>Keep in mind that if you don't have air, then you'd more than likely open the <BR>windows or sliding glass door, and then the mosquitoes will fly in and bite you, as happened to seven of us in Kauai, the coolest temperature island, but somehow that humidity makes even the coolest island in July and August seem miserable. REmember, insects insects, insects and more insects when you have the doors open in the tropics, not to mention all the cockroaches and <BR>other unmentionables. Ugh, yuck!

Yes, you need A/C in July. <BR> <BR>Here's a couple of weather websites you can look at, although the first one does not report on humidity. <BR> <BR>1. www.worldclimate.com <BR>Gives you high and low AVERAGES month by month. <BR> <BR>2. www.weatherunderground.com <BR>Gives you current weather (along with humidity) and a 4-day forecast. However, it will also give you "historical" actual temps so you can check on July weather for the past couple of years.

We stayed on Maui in early August this year, in an oceanfront condo with no air conditioning in Kihei. Kihei is supposed to be the driest area on the island. I was very concerned that we would be uncomfortably warm and sticky. However, we did not miss ac and had no problem at all with mosquitoes or any other bugs. I live in S. California now and would really notice if it had been uncomfortably humid. Yes, you leave the lanai doors open, but there are screen doors to keep any bugs out. Good luck!
