Is a Paris metro pass worth it?
 

We will be traveling to Paris for one week and wonder whether a metro pass is worth the cost,and how it works. Also, are there still those maps available where you can enter your beginning and destination stops and it gives you the route? I don't remember this from the last time I used the Metro which was almost 25 years ago!
Any advice would be helpful!

You never know around here, but you might get more responses to this on the Europe forum.

Verify on the Europe board, but our experience was yes, it was definitely worth it. Also the museum pass.

We arrive on Friday. I've resent this query on the Europe board (actually thought I'd sent it there to begin with!)
Why do you ask?

I find day or multi-day passes more convenient for travel in European cities like Paris that have excellent public transit. While you might be able to nickel-and-dime it to save a few bucks using a few tickets vs. the pass, I find it not worth the worry. With a pass you get on and off as much as you want, don't worry about getting off at the wrong stop, etc.

I love the Metro in Paris - part of the fun of visiting!

Thanks to all who have answered about the metro. I agree with the point that it is easier all around to have the pass and not worry about the particulars, as long as you intend to use it at some point. I'm not sure the same should be said about the museum pass, are you? Clearly, you have to check to see which museums you want to go to and if the cost covers the admissions to enough of them, etc. But what do you all think?

Even if you are only going to two museums, it may well be worth it (I've forgotten the prices, etc.) just in terms of paying for your time. The lines going into the Musee d'Orsay, just for starters, can be interminable, but with the pass you just walk in. I'll pay a certain amount just to avoid long waits.

I've heard about the lines at Musee D'Orsay, though last March (in the rain, no less!) we walked right in, without the pass. Just luck, I guess.
