Is a labtop a carry on ?

I'm flying spirit from Chgo to Ft Meyers, I usually fly SW, but 57.00 round trip made me switch. I have one carry on bag and purse. Is a labtop considered another carry on?
Thanks. Can't get thru to the airlines to ask.

Laptop has to be in your 1 carry-on. It is not considered a personal item

Put the purse inside one of the other two bags.

Check carry-on bag vs. personal item definitions for your specific airline, as some may consider a laptop a carry-on item, others may consider it a personal item. American Airlines and United, for example, both consider a laptop a personal item (see http://tinyurl.com/2sddl4 and http://tinyurl.com/ab7kq).

Stick the laptop in your other carryon until you're onboard, then if you need it take it out.

I think many airlines consider a laptop bag to be a "personal item". So you can carry it plus your carryon bag, but you will have to stow the purse, since you aren't supposed to have TWO personal items.

It's either laPtop or purse, plus your carry-on bag. You get to carry two things, so either the purse or the laPtop has to go in the carry-on.

LOL, HKP -- did something about the spelling in the OP bother you?

Suzie May 27th, 2008 01:14 PM

I was thinking since it was misspelled more than once that maybe the OP really thinks that it is a labtop.

You know how you hear things and don't see them in writing so you don't realize or think about how things are spelled then when it's pointed out to you, you're like "OH" ?

Thank you, once again Fodorites come thru. Everytime I call spirit the computor voice comes on I press any ext. it's busy. Maybe that's why it can put $57, round trips, No Customer Service.

I think a labtop is a small portable computer with a cold.

Bill_H May 27th, 2008 01:28 PM

Linda, here is their carry-on policy ... Spirit Airlines customers may bring one (1) carryon bag plus a personal item (such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop computer) on board at no charge.

http://www.spiritair.com/welcome.asp...ies#CarryOnBag

So you can't bring both the purse and the laptop as a personal item ... either check the other bag or, as most other posters suggest, slip the purse inside the carry-on bag.

Your laptop can be your personal item - in which case you get one carry-on (but no purse). If you have a purse as your personal item, then the laptop is your carry-on.

So - if you want a purse use a larger laptop bag and put in your computer plus whatever else you want to carry on.

The "labtop" will be no problem but the bunsen burner and the sink will get their attention.

I keep a bucket canvas bag handy. I use it to consolidate two carry-ons (including laptop) into one.
