Is 1 night on Sanibel Island enough?

Planning a trip to Fla in June w/ kids age 9 & 10. Plan to do some shelling on Sanibel Island...what time of day is best? Am looking at accomodations at Song of the Sea. Will one night there be enough time?

Rosegirl,
Depends on what you are looking to get from this area. I never found that 1 night was enough anyplace to do any sightseeing. We have actually stayed at Song of the Sea and would be happy to answer any questions. We now rent a condo near there for about the same price. You can find a lot of shells if that is the only thing you are looking to do, you should have enough time. Try Bowman's Beach for mounds of shells. Of course, it is always better after a rain, but if you go there, be sure to take bug spray because if there is not a breeze, the noseeums bite while getting to the beach area. Blind Pass, on San/Cap border also lots of shells. Actually though, you can find shells anywhere. Would also recommend a trip to Captiva - it is very tropical and there are some cute little restaurants there. Kids might enjoy RC Otter's or Bubbleroom on Captiva. Anyway, enjoy your trip. We usually go in July and love the area.

One night?!?! You'll barely get your feet wet. Unless you go to the beach all the time, I suggest three nights, especially because you have kids.

I would agree that 1 night is not enough time there. We just came back from there and stayed at West End Paradise. Was wonderful and I couldn't recommend it enough.

Best time for shelling is low tides and/or after a storm.

Thanks for the help...perhaps we'll return for a longer stay next time.
