Irish history/Pubs in South Boston

We're going on a trip to see UM play BC this upcoming weekend but would like to see Southie, check out a few Irish pubs etc. any ideas?

The most famous is probably the L Street Tavern (seen in Good Will Hunting). About 10 years back, my favorite was the Quiet Man Pub - kind of a dive, but great steak tips - but check to see if its open - last I heard it may have "gone condo" - like much of Southie - now that gentrification has set in. See this article for some ideas - http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...ory/TopStories

That said, if you are at BC, there are lots of pubs in Alston and Brighton that will be much closer - http://www.bostonirishpubs.com/irishpubs.html

my friend who is here is laughing - she said tell him to do what we always do when we are traveling - ask the local traffic beat police officer or construction workers the best place for a real lunch or a good pub - they've never steered us wrong yet in any city we've ever been in ! :)
