Iowa B&B recommendations?
Does anyone have a recommendation for a B&B in Iowa (preferably within 3 hrs drive of Des Moines)? We want to go somewhere where we can relax. It is a romantic getaway type of thing.

Highly recommend the Hancock House in Dubuque. My husband and I have stayed there the last few years for our Anniversary. The B&B is located on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River The Innkeepers, Chuck and Susan are extremly friendly and helpful. Check out their website; www.thehancockhouse.com

I second the vote for The Hancock House in Dubuque! Fulton's Landing in Davenport is nice, too (www.fultonslanding.com).

I just returned from a stay at the Hotel Pattee in Perry, about 45 minutes northwest of Des Moines. Believe me, you will not find a better hotel or better food in the whole state! Check out their website: www.hotelpattee.com.
They have romance packages and you are close to a bunch of Iowa attractions. |
I was very happy to spot this thread, even though it's a little old and moldy. We're driving through Iowa in late June and I've been having a difficult time finding indigenous hotels -- mainly B&B's. Tried in Sioux City, but the two I found have gone under. I would welcome ANY suggestions. The Pattee looks good.

No specfic B&Bs, but look at those in the Amana Colonies.

Hi Horizon,
I live in Perry, Iowa and I think you would really like the Hotel Pattee. Every room is decorated in a different theme. Many of the rooms are very luxurious. Also, there is a hot tub spa available and a 2 lane bowling alley! David's restaurant has excellent food and a world class wine list. If you visit Perry, be sure to stop by the old Carnegie Library across the street from the hotel. It has been newly renovated and is now a museum. Let me know if you would like any more information about Perry and the surrounding area. Laurie |
