Inverrary Plaza Resort - Fort Lauderdale

My husband will be attending a convention in Fort Lauderdale in early Feb and I am tagging along for the ride. We have come across the Inverrary Resort Hotel in searching for suitable accomodation. I notice that there is lots of golf and tennis to be had there. But what about the hotel itself? We would appreciate anyone's opinion on the hotel, those who have stayed there - spacious rooms? good service? clean/decent? would you recommend it?

Val, I have family the live in the Hills of Inverary and we visit twice a year. Inverary itself is a beautiful place. However, once you cross Oakland Park Blvd the area becomes not so nice. The golfing is very good there. It once was the home of the Jackie Gleason Classic. The greens are well kept. I have never staye d at the resort, but by the looks of all of the Inverarry Complex, it is well maintained. <BR><BR>We do have dinner in the club house ever so often and the service was great. Inverarry is not close to anything in Ft. Lauderdale. You will need a car. Other than the club house, there are no good resturants within walking distace. You will need a car. The beach is over a half and hour drive (thats early in the AM).<BR><BR>The place is convient for us because we have family there, but if we did not, we would stay elsewhere.<BR><BR>Hope I was of some help.

That is definetly helpful CJ. And it sounds like we may have to give that hotel a miss. We do plan on renting a car for our stay but we want to be close to Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Centre where my husband will be attending the conference and plan to use the car for outings in the evenings and to visit with our friends in Miami and the surrounding area. We would also want to stay close to resturants and where it all happens etc. So we will keep looking. Anyone who can recommend a good hotel close to the convention centre (a Marriott or a Hilton would be ideal), we would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks again

I am glad to help you Val. I want you to know that I am not bashing Inverarry, but staying there free with family and having to pay for a nice place are two different things. If you are a golfer, try the excecutive course, it is open to the public.<BR><BR><BR>You are making a great choice by staying closer to A1A. The are sooooo many places to stay there. Pier 66 is my favoriate place to stay when we are on our own. Good luck, have a safe and happy trip.<BR>'<BR>CJ

maybe too late but, my wife used to work there, the clientele is ancient, not just old ancient. the golf course is nice but if you want to interrupt your game to give CPR every 5 minutes that is the right place. there is no reason for anyone who likes their money to stay there. the area to the east (oakland park) is horrible.

JoBob is funny!<BR><BR>My Mom lived in Inverrary for 18 years. I just moved her up here to Ormond Beach. Inverrary is not a good area for you at this time. And, if you are under 60, you surely don't want to be there. It breaks my heart to say it because my Dad and Mom lived there for many years in a beautiful apartmetn right on the golf course. but the neighborhood outside is horrendous.<BR><BR>Any name branded hotel near the convention area will be find. All I can help you with are some great places to eat while you are there. Like BBQ? the best in all of South Florida is on Federal Hwy not far from where you'll be. It is called Tom Jenkins. Nothing fancy but the absolute best &quot;Q&quot;<BR><BR>Really nice Italian for dinner? Casa de Angelo on Sunrise and Fed Hwy - check the phone book - fabulous.<BR><BR>Great burger for lunch? Never had anything like this - trust me. A little bit of a ride - Jack's Famous Burgers - Fed Hwy.<BR><BR>The convention center is nice - nothing much around it though. Rent a car and you'll be fine staying in that area. No golf courses there - need to go west.
