Interval timeshares in Lake Tahoe or...

I have been offered to use a friend's week or several days at any timeshare I would like. Since we have never been to Tahoe, I was thinking it is a good destination this summer as we will be in SF in August.

Now, looking at the long list of possibilities, I have no idea which of these timeshares (besides I assume the Marriots and Hyatts) are very nice units. I suppose some are nicer than others or in a better location.

Anyone familiar with this area? Please post your opinions.

Also, do you know of other california interval timeshares that are in a good location or especially nice that at this late date we may be able to get into?

Thank you.

I am supposed to look at the list and tell my friend several options. Please help! Thanks!

We've stayed at the Marriott and at another called the Beachcomber. It was like the difference between the Ritz-Carlton and Motel 6. Maybe there's something in between, but if South Lake Tahoe is on your radar, I'd go for one of the Marriotts.

Hyatt at Incline Village has time shares and is VERY nice, but not sure if it is thru Interval. G

Give us some names and perhaps others will chime in?

I've stayed at both Marriotts which are in the village area and flank the Heavenly gondola which is open for sight seeing trips in the summer. Both would be nice. Grand is better if you need that info but really both are good.

I've stayed at the Embassy Vacation Club down at the Marina. The unit we stayed in was nice. It's about a mile from the casinos. We like to walk and it was a nice time of year so walking around was no biggie.

I have been inside the Hyatt timeshares. Beautiful. Though the units are behind the tower which is across the street from the lake it's still nicely located. The Hyatt has some beautiful lakeside gorounds including hammocks, firepits that you can sit at during the evening and watch the moon on the lake. They also have lakeside food and beverage service along with a lounge guy who will help you with a lounge chair. Very resorty for lake tahoe.

If the timeshares are up off the Kingsbury Grade you will have to drive to everything. The views could be nice but you are pretty far from beach activities so no walking to stuff. They are much older properties as well.

The Hyatt at Incline Village is on Interval. It is on the northeast side of the lake. There is also a Hyatt Residence club at Northstar, near Truckee.

The two Marriott properties are right in the thick of things in So. Lake Tahoe. You can walk to shopping, restaurants and casinos. There is a current trip report from a Fodorite who stayed there over Xmas.

Interval has several resorts up on the Kingsbury Grade area of Stateline, NV. This area is up the hill from the village. Some of them are nice resorts, but you would have to drive to get anywhere.

My advice would be to stick with the Interval "Premiere" properties (with the gold seal on the II website), so you avoid the "Motel 6" situation mentioned above. When your friend puts in her request, the order could be: Marriotts, Hyatts, then maybe the Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort, which is pretty new on the south side of the lake.

In other areas, Interval also lists a property on Bass Lake, which is closer to Yosemite. It is a more rustic area, without the restaurant choices and nightlife of Tahoe, but it could also be interesting. Probably tough to get at this late date, but may be worth a shot.

I would not put the Marriotts above the Hyatt at all. You'd be in Incline Village pretty much right on the lake. While the Marriotts have access to a private beach the beach has a water break right in front of it which does detract from the view a bit. The beach isn't nearly as pretty as the Hyatt.

thanks. will put hyatt at top of requests!

I agree with Suzie that the Hyatt in Incline is in a great location. If you don't care about being on the lake, the units at the Hyatt at Northstar are gorgeous.
