Internet Cafes in NYC?
I may have to use the internet while in NYC. I have noticed in SF that years ago I could go into quite a number of internet cafes and use their computers for a small fee. I now notice in my city that most cafes are wireless and no longer have a computer and I am stuck with having to use the public library or a place like kinkos.
Does anyone know of internet cafes in NYC near SOHO or the village?

They seem to be becoming a thing of the past. You are right about the switch to wireless.
I used internet at a place at 9th and 49th, The Coffee Pot (?) a few years ago. This past year, I noticed they had been replaced with a computer that takes a credit card and cost something like $10 an hour or maybe even more.

There's a huge internet cafe in the east village that i can't think of the name of it. it is one of those places where all the computers are linked so the gamers can go and play. it is right near the cooper hewitt school so maybe that is 4th avenue and astor place. So go to Uptown 6 Astor Place subway Entrance, go south past the "Sculpture for Living" building i.e. the huge chase bank and right on your right about 100 yards down is a internet place.
also in astor place near Starbucks you see with the glass covered front, not the Starbucks with the outside patio (yes there are at least two in this location a block apart if not more) there's a kinko's right there.
Then on University at 13th street or so there's a news cafe where they have computers in the back.
Can you tell I spent a few weeks without a computer when mine crashed this summer?
Your cheapest and best bet is the big place on 4th Avenue. It's not very far from SoHo. There's also a library at Jefferson Market which is West 10th Street and 6th Avenue, but I don't recommend it. Every time I'm in there, all the computers are full.

Several years ago, before I traveled with my laptop, I followed the advice from here of using the public library computers. Like williamscb13, I never found one that wasn't in use and didn't already have a line of people waiting to take over. I checked several libraries. The big one by 5th and 42nd was the worst!
