Internet Cafes? Are there any in CA?
In Europe, Internet cafes are everywhere. What about in CA? I have to admit, I'm hooked to the Internet for bill paying and basicly everything else. I'm going to be in California for 3+ weeks, want to travel light and not drag a laptop. What will be the opportunities to access the internet?

You can find pay-as-you-go Internet kiosks here and there, but it is not as widespread as in Europe or Asia. I think that may be due to the ubiquity of in-home Internet usage, as well as the proliferation of wireless Web access. We go out to GET AWAY from our PCs. It is telling that the vast majority of the few Internet cafés found in the Los Angeles area are located in neighborhoods with large immigrant Asian populations.
You may find access in public libraries. But it will be challenging otherwise. |
Many towns in CA will have a 24-hour Kinkos, which is the brand name for a business center with photocopying, computer printing, etc. They have cheap, fast Internet connections that you plug your credit card right into. Never fear, the Internet will always be near! |
I agree. We use Kinko's whenever an internet connection is not available at a local library.
|
Most public libraries have computers available - some have free access and some charge a nominal fee.
There are several Kinkos in every town of any size and while they are more expensive, most sites are 24/7 operations. |
Depends on where you're going - there may be a computer in your hotel's lobby.
