International flights from JFK
The summer airfares to Europe are better out of JFK than EWR, PHL, or DC area airports. To drive and park at JFK is it too much of a hassle?
|
Where will you be driving to and from and what times will you be travelling? When I lived in Brooklyn I flew out of EWR because I did find JFK to be a nightmare for driving and a miserable place to return to. But enough $ would be worth some aggravation.

You should keep in mind that one of the major runways at JFK is undergoing renovation for the next 4 months (!), which will undoubtedly cause further headaches/delays. If the airfare isn't substantially different, I'd go to the airport closest to you instead.

It is a $400 savings per ticket...I thought I heard something about a runway being closed...thanks.

I saved this info for my next trip:
"...long term parking in the newish Smart Park lot near JFK (13 days for $172.19)... they offer a 5 hour grace period before applying additional charges if you are late on return. (1-877-JFK-PARK). their e mail states the following: "for the 13 days your vehicle will be with us, we will care for it as if it were our own...." i like this bit of friendliness---is this NY???..." http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...nn-via-jfk.cfm |
You'll never make BIG MONEY ON THE INTERNET if you forget to tell people how to contact you. But maybe that omission was to avoid advertising, which isn't permitted.

If you're saving $400 per ticket, check out how much it would cost to pick up a rental car where you live and then return it that same day at JFK, and vice versa. I had a similar possible savings a couple years agao, so I checked the cost from and to Philly. I found it was $250 grand total for the two rentals -- drop-off fees, gas, tolls, tax, even CDW. For the two of us on a two-week trip, the cost of a car rental was more than worth it.

I don't know what EricH means. That post from travfirst was taken from someone's trip report and is not an ad. To the OP, don't know where you live but in addition to Paul's idea of checking car rental, know JFK is linked by train and bus to Manhattan so if you can use public transportation economically (do you know about megabus.com and boltbus.com?) that might be easier than driving yourself. The other idea is staying overnight at the very basic but decent panamhotel.com which for $199 for a night will give you free parking for 7 days and then $10/day after that and has free shuttle to/from the airport.

mclaurie, EricH commented on another post – air tickets advertisement, that luckily was removed.
