InterIsland Airfare in Hawaii

Will be in Hawaii with my family from June 28 through July 9. Any suggestions on which airline offers the best Interisland airfares, deals etc. We will be staying in Honolulu and and Poipu but might like to visit Maui or the Big Island as well. For now all we have is air fare to Honolulu but no interisland arrangements. Party of five (4 adults and one 7 year old.)

We found that by going to a travel agent on the island we were on was a better deal (like 1/2 price) than buying at the airport. I think its because the locals get discounts but they don't ask you if you're local. I think the fares on each of the airlines are comparable.

My husband and I are going to Honolulu in June. We would like to find out more about interisland airfare. Do you need to make reservations before we go? How much do we need to budget for this? Also do you have any suggestions on travel around the island? Is it nessary to rent a car? Thanks

We always rent a car in Oahu. However, there is bus transportation readily available if you don't mind waiting for buses. Out daughter lived there for 5 years and didn't own a car. Will be going again in April.

Chris,
We will be going to Hawaii in Apr. 99. We are going to Kauai and Maui, so we need a total of 6 interisland flights, for the two of us. I have called Hawaiian Airlines and was told that you can buy a book of 6 coupons for $333. They can be shared or used by a group. A single fare is $95, so it is worth it to buy the book. They told me the only requirement was to have a confirmed reservation (no obligation, and you don't have to have your ticket to make the reservation) You only have to make the first reservation, and can make the other reservations when you know what your plans are. I believe Aloha Airlines has much the same deal.
You can buy the coupons from them when you get there. If you are going directly from Oahu to another island, as we are, it would not be convenient to have to buy a ticket from a local travel agent.
Hope this helps.
Pat

Just got back from Hawaii last week.
Flew into Honolulu and then interisland flight to Kauai. You can
fly either Aloha or Hawaiin airlines(or others as well). You can go to the
MAC machine at the airport and put
in a major credit card and buy 1, 2 or
6 tickets for one way travel amongst
the islands. That was on HawaiinAirLines. Two one way tickets cost us I think 109.00 . When
it asks you for your pin #, just skip past it and continue. The flight from
Oahu to Kauai was 18 minutes. They
like you to confirm and make a reservation, but outbound from Oahu to Kauai, we just walked up to the counter with our tickets in hand.
Email me if you would like more info.
Hawaiian Airlines currently has a promotion in which, if you fly from the mainland to Kauai or the Big Island, you receive a free connecting ticket between the two islands. Not sure exactly how that would work for you, or if there is an ending date on the offer. Bon voyage.
Check out www.planetmaui.com (McCoy Travel). They had interisland fares from $50 each way based on 2 people travelling roundtrip.
Thanks to all for your posts. I will definitley look into the coupon idea. It sounds like that may be my best bet! I saw the Big Island Kuaui deal but could not figure out how to take advantage. Againg, thanks all and if you have anymore ideas I am all ears.
