Interisland airfare
My future wife and I are going to Hawaii on our honeymoon in sept 99. What is the cheapest and reliable way to fly between the islands. Any special deals? how do you get those coupons?

Thanks for your help

I'm not certain which airline it was, but I got a substantial discount on an interisland flight by mentioning I had a triple-A card.

Eric,

There are two main airlines that fly interisland. Both have websites.
www.hawaiianair.com and
www.alohaair.com
I am sure you can find something there.
If this doesnt help, email me and I can give you further information.
mrp

Eric,

There are two ways to fly the least expensive way - for $54.00 per interisland segment rather than about $85 paying counter rates. You can go to "www.travel-hawaii.com"; on that page toward the bottom, click on the "interisland airfares for less" blurb. They will deliver as many Hawaiian Airlines interisland tickets as you need, for a total service charge of $11.00 Fedex, to you here on the mainland. OR you can wait until you get to the airport in Honolulu, and buy interisland tickets for Hawaiian Airlines from the Bank/ATM machine in the terminal for %54/each. The only thing cheaper is to buy a book of six coupons at the counter, and they average out to $51 each (perfect for a couple doing 3 islands.) Aloha Airlines also sells the books of six coupons for about the same price.

The good thing about having your interisland tickets in hand when you leave the mainland is that you can check your luggage all the way through to an outer island, if you're visiting one of them first, and won't have to bother picking up and re-checking your luggage for the interisland flight from Honolulu.

You can get a AAA discount with Aloha, but it was still more than $10 per ticket cheaper to fly Hawaiian using their coupons. There's a site called "www.sunnyhawaii.com" that had a blurb about selling Aloha tickets, but I haven't checked that out recently. You might want too. Hope this helps.

Aloha - have a wonderful trip!

Ruth

It's been a few years since I have been to the islands, but the last time I was there, I took an airline called Mahalo Air. They were much cheaper than either Hawaiian or Aloha. They used fairly new large, prop-driven aircraft, so you flew at a much lower altitude than the jets, & we got a wonderful view of all of the islands between Hawaii and Oahu.

BTW, if you get the chance, I would HIGHLY recommend visiting the big island!

Enjoy your trip!

Rich and Eric,

The last I heard, Mahalo Airlines had gone out of business, but it was a great alternative when it was flying!

I checked the "sunnyhawaii.com", and they don't seem to be selling Aloha tickets anymore.

Contact Klahani Travel on Maui (1-800-669-MAUI) if you will be staying on Maui. I spoke to a lady named Robin and she got us a deal on a day trip from Maui to the big Island with a rental car and back to Maui for about $200 for 2 people.

Eric,

I second Adam's suggestion. Call Klahani Travel on Maui. I got a great deal there during my recent trip to Maui/Oahu. For $126 I got round trip interisland airfare from Maui to Oahu, a nice rental car (Dodge Neon) from Dollar Rent-a-Car that had great gas mileage, and one night hotel stay at Waikiki Parkside Hotel. I shared this deal with my two friends, so the total price was $378 for three adults; airfare, car and hotel. I had the option of skipping the hotel stay and returning to Maui on the last flight back, which would have decreased my cost by about $20, or about $60 for the three of us. But it was well worth it to us not having to rush back to the airport after a day of much sightseeing. The accomodations were very nice for a $60 a night room.
