Insurance on US Air Flight
 

I am getting ready to book a flight on US Air for next March. How do I buy cancellation insurance if I book on line?

I don't believe cancellation insurance will pay if the company goes out of business, but I could be wrong. Search some other threads...there have been a lot on USAirways.

If someone is willing to offer you trip insurance on USAir, immediately become skeptical and read the fine print. USAir cannot find a bank to lend it additional money because they have no assets left to borrow against.

I can't imagine that a reputable insurance company will offer USAir trip insurance given how precarious their financial position is.

Your best bet is to book your trip on a credit card and avail yourself of consumer protection laws should USAir stop operating.

Another warning about travel insurance in general: read the fine print very carefully. Most policies have so many exclusions, they're rarely worth the price. (A friend of mine needed to cancel a trip because a typhoon struck her destination; she discovered natural disasters weren't covered by her policy.)

Your best protection is to book through a partner airline, like United or Lufthansa. The prices will be roughly the same, but not exact.
But if USAir goes under, you are left holding a United (or other) ticket, and it's up to them to find a different flight for you.

Travel Impressions. You can cancel for any reason at all up to two hours before your flight for a full refund minus the insurance. It would be about $50 for a $1,000 worth of insurance.
