Inn on Fifth vs Escalante vs Edgewater?

Patrick especially ...

Considering the Inn on Fifth, Escalante and Edgewater in Naples. Any recommendations? Pros/cons?

Looking for:
-easy beach access and good beach location!
-clean, renovated rooms
-nice property
-proximity to Fifth

Please! Thanks.

Well I will defer to Patrick's superior knowledge of Naples, but I will tell you we spent 5 days at the Edgewater and LOVED it. It is right on the beach. I know Inn on Fifth is not and it is about 5 blocks to the beach. I have not been to Escalante, but I don't think it is on the beach. Beachfront Hotel property is VERY rare and DEAR in Naples. Judy

Thanks Judy, so glad to hear! Patrick was actually the one who mentioned the Edgewater originally.

Yes, the Edgewater is the only one of the three right on the beach and is also probably the most "upscale" of the three. The Inn on Fifth is techncially 7 blocks from the Gulf, and Escalante is 3 blocks from the Gulf.
Actually although the Inn on Fifth is right on the main plaza on Fifth, it is more of business people's hotel than anything else -- but very nice.
A new flash. Escalante was on the verge of bankruptcy. It just sold to a group of investors. It is expected that it may be torn down for a new development, but at the moment it is still open.
I'd say if the price is right, then by all means go with Edgewater. (Although do realize that you'll probably want to drive to the restaurants and shops of Fifth Avenue and Third Street South}.

Life has gotten to hectic for me to finish planning this trip! Back on track now ... ideally I'd like a place where wouldn't have to drive to get everywhere -- we're hopefully going to be staying in Sanibel or Captiva for the first 3 days, then in Naples. So when in Naples I figure we should take advantage of the area.

Does that change your recommendation at all?
