Inn on Bourbon or Chateau LeMoyne
We have the choice out of Inn on Bourbon or Chateau LeMoyne for our January visit. Any suggestions on best service and clean hotel. Thanks a lot!
Baci
Dear Baci: As a local I've not stayed in either of the places you mentioned but I can tell you that Chateau LeMoyne is a former Holiday Inn located close to Canal Street and the entry to the French Quarter. Though its prices do not suggest "modest lodgings," by comparison with the biggies like Marriott and Hilton, that's what it is. I suppose one could call it "good enough." The Inn on Bourbon I don't know at all but Bourbon is not the most elegant locale. Hope you find one you like. Joan
My husband and have stayed at the Chateau LeMoyne a couple of times, and although it's been several years since we were there, it was certainly NOTHING like an ordinary Holiday Inn. It's on the recommended list in my Fodor's travel guide from 1995.

According to the same travel guide, the Inn on Bourbon Street is a Best Western hotel, with rooms facing Bourbon Street that're coveted during Mardi Gras, but apparently too loud other times. If you opt for this hotel, you should request rooms facing the courtyard.

Reasonable quarters in the Quarter:

Rather than the two inns you cite, I'd steer you to these which are less costly and much more attractive and atmospheric:

Six Sixteen Ursulines
616 Ursulines Ave
504-529-5489

Le Richelieu Motor Hotel
[free parking! rare in the quarter]
1234 Chartres St
504-529-2492

Villa Convento Hotel
Ursulines
504-522-1793

Hi Baci,
I stayed at the Chateau LeMoyne in June of this year. I was impressed the price was reasonable. I mean the setup is not like the Ritz Carlton but I want to feel acknowledged when I stay at a hotel. It's one of the smaller ones in the French Qtr and you can walk right over to Bourbon St. I stayed there alone because I was stood up. The staff really made me feel welcome. I'm not familiar with Inn on Bourbon, but you have got to check out Bergen Gallery. You will be in awe once you step into this place.
If you have any more questions, regarding places, sights, etc. don't hesitate to email.
By the way I'm in the process of trying to plan my next year's vacation right back to Nawlins.
KC.
