Inn Between Hanover, NH & Boston
I have to drive to two sporting events next weekend--first one is in Hanover, NH on Saturday and second is in Chestnut Hill, MA on Sunday. Any suggestions for a cute inn or B&B between those two spots? I don't want to go too far off of a direct route, but a small detour is fine. Would like someplace with a good/great restaurant and a bit of shopping. Thanks!

It is hard to say not knowing the times of your sporting events - so that you can figure the time to drive to a spot after one, and would you have time to enjoy the downtown, some shops, dinner and do you have to get out of their early in themorning or is the Chesnut Hill game later in the day on Sunday?
And where do you begin driving from and have to return to on Sunday after the Chesnut Hill game? That might help some people pick spots that would be a good distance for you in between if you don't want to heard directly to Boston area. Depending on that, depends on where you might head in NH or northern MA - or if you want to just head into Chesnut Hill or downtown Boston area, stay at a B & B in the Newton area or Boston - and depending on which, have all the shopping and restaurants at Chesnut HIll, Route 9, Framingham, Natick, or downtown Boston - |
As I said--want a place between Hanover, NH and Chestnut Hill, MA. Do not want to be in Boston as I will be there the following weekend for two other sporting events.
The drive between Hanover and Chestnut Hill is about 2.5 hours. According to Mapquest most of my time traveling will be on I-89 and I-93 so anything just off those routes for an inn would be fine. If I don't get too far off that route I'll have time to enjoy the area. Suggestions please. Thanks! |
Honestly, there's not much off of that route. I drive it here and there, as I live in Boston and often have to go to Dartmouth for work. Are you looking for a place with a cute downtown area? Maybe Andover MA?

Actually, another option is Woodstock VT. It is a beautiful town with lots of cute shops and restaurants. It's about 30 min from Hanover so it just depends on what type of a drive you're willing to do on Sunday.

Yes, I was looking for something quiet, picturesque between Dartmouth and Boston just for the night and not a lot of time to spend. I can easily go on into Boston, but we'll be there the following weekend for two nights, so . . . Also, the trip I am asking about will probably just be me.

Hanover itself is a lovely town. I found the diner excellent, I liked the walk around the campus with the wishing tree. As a university town it has good bookshops and there are more shops & restaurants than in most other towns. The town is well kept & if you have read any Bill Bryson you can spot all the places he mentions. I stayed at the Trumbull with my family & found it one of the best places I have ever stayed in.
Woodstock was very picturesque but as with most places in Vt, NH & Ma everywhere seems to close at 5.00pm and after sunset the roads are pitch black so make sure you know where you are going. I drove up from Boston stopping at Concord NH but could not recommend anywhere else to stay & I would think that the direct driving time to Boston is not that great. |
