Inn at Union Square - San Francisco

I am traveling to San Francisco for two days in December and I am looking for a hotel for under $150 in the Union Square area. Has anyone stayed at the Inn at Union Square? From what I have read it seems pretty nice.

i recently booked 2 nites at this hotel for trip i'm taking next May. it looks lovely & the price is right. small, boutiquey type of hotel instead of huge chain. all reviews I've read are favorable & they couldn't have been nicer when I called to reserve. i say give it a shot !

I haven't stayed here but we poked around the lobby while waiting for our table at Farallon and thought it seemed like a very nice place to stay and in a great location in Union Square. Let us know how you like it when you return. ***kim*** ((l))

I am staying at this hotel the first week in June 2006 and would love to hear reviews from both of you who will have stayed before me. Many thanks!

From a local: this location is safe, lots of restaurants around, shopping.

Public transportation - depends where you're going, maybe 2 buses required.

To all those with reservationas at Inn at Union Sq,
We're thinking of booking there in August, how did it go???

tourvoucher May 17th, 2006 09:58 AM

Joniellen, we're staying at the Inn at Union Square in a couple of weeks, I'll post my opinion upon our return. I was hoping Kris8777 or LehmanL555 would respond and help us out.

I'm not Kris or Lehman, but I live about an hour from San Francisco.

There are a number of boutique hotels around Union Square.

You might want to look into the Chancellor or the Carlton. There's also the Swan Inn and the Donatello, both of which are a couple of blocks off Union Square.

If you have a car and want to park free in that area, try the Nob Hill Inn.

Also check into tripadvisor.com and mytravelguide.com for reviews of these and other hotels.

Good luck!

Pardon the interruption, but I thought ***Nob Hill***((f))((l)) was in Portland. ;-) Are you saying there's one in San Francisco too??

FainaAgain May 17th, 2006 12:22 PM

THE ORIGINAL Nob Hill is in San Francisco. All other are impostors.

I haven't stayed, but a co-worker of mine always stays there when she goes to San Francisco and just loves it. She recommended it to me, but when we were there a few years ago it was already booked solid. Looks lovely!

beachbum: pardon my ignorance! ((f))

But I thought the Portland locals referred to that area as the "Northwest" or "Alphabet Soup" or "Simpsonland"?

beachbum May 17th, 2006 01:37 PM

"Portland locals" being the operative words there, easytraveler. ;-)

Watchingawannabe May 17th, 2006 06:31 PM

If someone hasn't actually stayed there, I wouldn't put much credence in what they have to say. They haven't slept in the beds, tested the noise levels between the rooms, experienced the front desk and room service staff nor have they experienced the quality of the bedding, the towels or the plumbing. Syrahgirl may draw pretty pictures of hearts but she doesn't have a clue.

LOL, Watching, but wrong username for this board.

trippinkpj May 17th, 2006 06:46 PM

I've trusted "second hand" reviews, and ones via trip advisor. No bad experiences yet. Knock on wood. I only had bad experience 10 plus years ago when I didn't do my research properly, LOL.

LOL Watching!
TripAdvisor reviews have to be considered with great care. We have recently discovered this poster writing plagiarized lists on TA. They took care of it but allow this poster to continue to participate on the forums.
Best advice is to read dozens of reviews and get an idea that way...and remember, poking around lobbies or using the hotel bathroom is not considered Staying at the Hotel! lol

LoveItaly May 17th, 2006 07:27 PM

Hey Scarlett, you think LOL :-D

Joniellen May 17th, 2006 07:54 PM

Thanks Tourvoucher, hope it is great for you. I would love to hear your opinion. I'll also check out the other suggestions and yes, we do have a car. Inn at Union Sq has a parking package and parking is usually $25 vs so many others at $45. Since you're all so kind, anyone have a favorite Carmel or Santa Barbara hotel, mid-range but nice?

Monadnock May 18th, 2006 01:44 AM

It's been 8 years since we were there, so I would love to hear, kriss8777, your opinion if you do stay there. We loved it; the breakfast in the morning and the cocktails in the evening were very good; and we had a working fireplace in our room which we did use as it was a rainy November visit. Would return if it's still what it was.
