Inn at Biltmore not worth the money
I stayed at the Inn at Biltmore last weekend and had a horrible experience. At $350 a pop, and I reserved two rooms for my family, and they give me a view of the parking lot. I protested but they only switched one room to the mountain view, so my family were separated between two wings. Half of the rooms will have parking lot view in this hotel, but they still charge full price. Rooms are very small, and furnishing is mediocre. Dining room is not good, would not recommend. Shuttle service to the Biltmore estate is a joke, since they run every hour. There is no added benefit of staying in the estate. Management not amenable to complaints, and staff not professionally trained. I have not looked into Grove Park Inn, but there are many posts on this site with a lot of praises, so if I have to visit Asheville again, I would definitely stay there. Who would want to pay $350 and look at the parking lot?

Hi Alexis,
May I ask when exactly you stayed at the Inn and if they could fix your complaint, what you would have expected be done? It sounds like everything about the Estate was mediocre? What exactly happened with the dinner and your shuttle experience to the house? I've always heard such great things about this property, so I'm very suprised to read this.
Are views guaranteed with that rate?
Would love to get more feedback.
P.S. Do you recall your room number?

I've never visited the Inn at the Biltmore and don't know what % of rooms are poor or no view rooms.
But...almost every expensive hotel has rooms with poor views, and someone is still paying for them.
Not everyone can have a prime view room all the time.
Most nicer hotels allow guests to pay extra to guarantee better views.

I've heard the Inn at the Biltmore is overpriced too, and had/has a whole host of management problems from inception to date.
What I dont understand are all these people that pay 350.00 a night to look out of the window??? I'm referring to the "view" disappointment which I often hear from many people. Years ago my hotel in South Africa had a wonderful view of Table Mountain and you want to talk views, THAT was a view! It was beautiful, but I didn't spend hours looking at it from the window I went OUT to it. I appreciate a nice view depending on where I am espescially if its water oriented, such as Capetown which had views of Table Bay and Table Mountain and sunsets to die for, but its not a must have for me.

If I'm on business, I don't particularly care about views from hotel rooms.
If I'm away for leisure, however, I feel like my hotel is my home away from home and I'll pay more for a better view if the hotel is in a worthwhile location.
For example, at the Phoenician in Phoenix, I'll pay more for the expansive views across the city, and hate getting stuck with a room 50 feet from the back of Camelback Mountain (which actually means no view at all).
At the Four Seasons NYC I pay extra for a high floor and Central Park view because that special view provides a kind of ambience and colors my impression of my hotel stay in a way that makes it meaningfully more enjoyable and memorable for me.
I may be in the minority, I don't know.
But I don't mind spending extra for a nice view if it's a nice hotel.
Taking a cab versus a limo from the airport gets me to my destination in the same length of time, but I sure enjoy the limo more.

Jon Eric, I'd like to know where you get your information. I live in Asheville and have heard nothing of the sort about the Inn on Biltmore Estate. It's one of the few hotels in the area to have been rated four stars by Mobil.

Sorry to disagree with your assessment of the Inn at Biltmore. I was there two years ago and am going back this summer. Our room was beautiful (french and english manor inspired furnishings), we had a huge marble bathroom with high-end plumbing, the service was southern-hospitality-friendly and knowledgable, the food at all of the restaurants was awesome (estate raised produce, beef, wine). I'm wondering if your view of the parking lot dissapointed you at such a level that it ruined the rest of your experience?
