Info on Mana Kai Maui or Kihei Surfside

Has anyone ever stayed at either Mana Kai Maui or Kihei Surfside? I know the accomodations aren't spectacular but I hear that the beach there is awesome. We are looking for lodging in S. Kihei in about the $100-$125 a night range. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Mana Kai is PERFECT !!! Try to get an upper floor in the middle of the complex if possible, but even if you don't you'll be ok. Great beach, great grounds, great views, great restaurant, great location, and great price. We met people there who have been coming back for 20 yrs. You'll love it.

Did you stay in one of their One bedrooms or their "hotel rooms"?
Thanks for the info.

Do the 1 bedroom, and FYI, the 2br is the same room with an adjoining hotel room added.

My wife and I stayed in a 1 bedroom on the 6th floor last October. The suite was nice but not spectacular... the deck had very nice views and I was certainly glad we hadn't chosen the 'hotel' rooms. No view at all from them. The beach was nice as well... some lava rocks to watch out for but mostly sandy and fairly shallow. My favorite was the lava rock tide pools right in front of the building. Somewhat treacherous footing but beautiful and facinating.
Would we stay there again? Probably not but simply because we would want to try somewhere on the island other than Kihei next time and we've found we tend to enjoy B&Bs and small Inns better than condos or hotels.
