Info on Ana Maria Island

Hi,
we are considering renting a beach cottage on Ana Maria Island next summer. I am looking for a nice, clean beach, clear water, no high rises, and restaurants within walking distance. We are a couple in our mid thirties with a teen and a "pre-teen". Any thoughts or ideas about this place. Possibly any ideas on a better Florida vacation for us??? Your help is greatly appreciated.
Kirsten

I love Anna Maria for the reasons you have stated, although I'm not sure the teens will adore it. If they like the beach & swimming in the Gulf, then it's perfect. Marco Island/Naples/Sannibel Island may have more water activities for the teens.

good luck!

fun beach without high rises limits you pretty much to Anna Maria and Sanibel. Marco is pretty much a wall of concrete now with soaring high rises and Naples is cramming every inch with them. Sanibel and Captiva limit their development to 3 stories and Anna maria as well. Your description of what you are looking for is filled by South Seas Plantation. Lots to do, you really don't have to leave the property. Many restaurants on Captiva within walking distance. etc. The beach at Anna Maria is gorgeous though but not as much to do. All the propertys at South Seas are condos with kitchens etc. I'd try South Seas. it is much less expensive in the summer as well.

Kirsten,

My husband and I are in our early 30s and have a home on Anna Maria. The beaches are beautiful and if you're looking for a very laid back atmosphere, Anna Maria's what you're looking for. However, if you're looking for any type of excitement...don't come to Anna Maria - you won't find it!

It has been many years since our family rented a place on Anna Maria. Yes it is secluded and quiet -- if that's what you're looking for.
Go to Google, enter Anna Maria Island, and you'll find a surprising number of links to rentals, including nice looking beach houses. Living in Naples, myself, these places on Anna Maria look like bargains of the century!!
