Info for anyone traveling to California this week!

Just to let everyone know it is real hot across the whole state right now and is expected to stay that way for awhile.Today the temps have ranged from 75 to 85 degrees. So along with what ever you were planning on packing I'd throw in a bathing suit and a pair of shorts.
I thought this might be helpful since people are always wondering what the weather will be like in advance. See you in the Golden State.

How true! Mid 70s in Sacto area. Time to go hits some golf balls!
After the ton o' fog burns off!

With all this great weather, why should I go to Kauai?
Kal

I keep waiting for my 4th of July holiday!!!! This is a bit unusual even to people who grew up here.

Alice Nov 20th, 2002 03:12 PM

No fog at all in the San Diego area, coastal range is 75-80's and our inland areas are in the 90's! Supposed to drop a bit later in the week...makes me want to take the day off and go to the beach.

Me Nov 20th, 2002 04:53 PM

It hit 88 today in Santa Monica - 2 miles from the beach. BUT, it will drop to 50's at night, so bring a jacket.

From the cold and damp east coast I send my thanks for rubbing your good fortune in! Please send some of that California sunshine our way! :)

brooke Nov 20th, 2002 05:36 PM

That's great i'm flying in 2 weeks to California. Does anyone if the weather is supposed to be hot then?

calgal Nov 20th, 2002 07:25 PM

It's supposed to be hot thru to Thanksgiving, after that who knows. I'd kind of like some colder weather, it's hard to believe the holidays are here when the weather is so warm. Try looking at the Old Farmer's Almanac site. Believe it or not they seem to get it right quite alot. Even if we get some rain in Northern CA, Southern CA could stil be very warm.

Wait a minute here...I live near Palo Alto and though it was beautiful this afternoon, it's pretty darned chilly right now (9:30 PM). I'm wearing a nice warm sweater and feeling like I might have to grab a blanket. I wouldn't say it was "hot." The afternoon warmth starts fading away around 5:30-6 and you don't want to be wearing shorts in the evening. Though the sun is shining brightly in the morning, I don't take off my sweater until around 11 AM.

kathy Nov 20th, 2002 09:14 PM

Not sure how long this will last....I spent 1 1/2 hour at the beach today in Newport Beach and my cheeks are bright pink (I'm faired skinned). Bring your sun screen if you're fair...suppose to be a bit cooler tomorrow. I'm visiting from Michigan so this is most unusual for me. Love having this computer in our room to keep in touch with Fodor friends. Do I ever love California!! Two more years and my hubby and I retire and We're HERE!

It's been surprisingly pleasant in Northern California, but I wouldn't call 70 degrees hot. And it's dropping into the 30s at night. So, don't worry about the swim suit up here.

Emily Nov 21st, 2002 07:33 AM

We have a Santa Ana condition in San Diego, very windy and dry, with record highs Wednesday, 92!! I sure do love it here :)

Michele Nov 21st, 2002 09:00 AM

Orange County has been in the upper 80s, and in some places even into the 90s. It is supposed to cool today and tomorrow, and this weekend the temps are supposed to drop into the 70s once again.

Not sure about next week, but it looks like the temps could be rising once more. It's always anyone's guess around here for Thanksgiving - some years warm enough to go to the beach, other times cold and rainy.

Susan Nov 21st, 2002 09:07 AM

Glad to hear ya'll are having beach weather in SoCal, but up here in the SF bay area it's a bit chilly! I've got on a sweater today and had to put an extra down comforter on the bed last night. As always in California, prepare for big changes in temp between day and night. Maybe that beach weather is going to make its way up here?

sunny Nov 21st, 2002 10:22 AM

I live in Santa Cruz and yesterday it was 83 degrees. It felt very warm. Even at 9 last night when I went for a walk I only needed a light sweat shirt. A few clouds today but still very warm. Yes during the day you could wear shorts for sure. I feel sorry for people who planned on sking over the Thanksgiving break though.

kal Nov 21st, 2002 11:11 AM

S'Spike,
I know what you mean about chilly. I had to throw a light windbreaker over my t-shirt and shorts when I went to b'fast with Mrs Kal this a.m.! Should have worn tennis shoes vs. Tevas, though.
The good news is Accuweather.com "predicts" sunny/partial cloudy skies and hi 60s/lo 70s over T'giving weekend. May actually have to take the bikes to Yountville.
"38"
Kal

Laura Nov 21st, 2002 12:51 PM

It was a record breaking 80 degrees here in Monterey, CA. It's gorgeous, everyones on the beaches. Doesn't look like were going to have much of a winter this year. ENJOY!

xxx Nov 21st, 2002 02:35 PM

Shhhhhhh! Do you guys want more people moving here. Keep it to yourselves!

Oh, dear, the weather has just been awful and traffic is worse!

Thyra Nov 21st, 2002 03:41 PM

Thanks xxx... oh yeah.. horrid.. dont' forget the smog... ouch!!!! And the wrinkles from too much sun....

Ben Nov 22nd, 2002 05:35 PM

It was cold, damp, drizzly and very grey all day where I was in the SF bay area. High was around 58. Probably the same throughout this weekend.

I think a warm lined windbreaker and long trousers would be of more use than shorts and swimsuits. JMHO.

Marilyn Nov 22nd, 2002 10:17 PM

Anyone who travels to the SF area after October 1 without a sweater and a raincoat is asking for trouble or a shopping trip. This week is no exception! It's supposed to start drizzling tomorrow evening and was damn chilly this evening (low 50's).

calgal Nov 23rd, 2002 07:54 AM

Yes it looks like our heatwave is over. Although I haven't heard any forecast for rain yet. It would be nice to get some soon though. Well even if it isn't 80 degrees Thanksgiving week we will most likely still have very nice weather compared to say the Mid- West, so enjoy...
