Info about Sedona "pink jeep tours"

I was just reading some threads about hiking in Sedona and think the jeep tours may be just the thing for our trip. We're not hikers at all. Do they go to different places, and if so, is one recommended more than others. Also, are there different companies running them? Does anyone have information about where you get them, price, time of day, and length of the tours. We'll be in the Sedona area for one night and most of 2 days.

Yes, there are various companies. We went on the Broken Arrow tour given by the original company. See their website for complete info.: www.pinkjeeptours.com

mvpl: I saw the jeeps last weekend on Broken Arrow trail while hiking. One thing that people may not realize is how very bumpy those rides can be. You are going up and down and over huge boulders in the jeeps, not rocks in the road, but boulders that are much larger than the jeeps themsleves. Sometimes the jeeps almost go 90 degrees vertical to the rocks they are going down on, it is just amazing, they look like they will flip but they don't. But people should be aware that it is a very bumpy and dramatic ride, at least at Broken Arrow from the 14 jeeps I saw there Sunday morning btwn 8 and 11 am. If you had a bad back or something similar, that is something I think you'd have to consider.

mvpl,
I suggest you do a search on this board (jeep tours); there's a lot of info. I have written about the Hummer tour which we did instead - much smoother ride and the highlight of our trip for my kids. Definitely worth it to go off-road on one of these tours.

Check their website for the tour that appeals to you. The ticket office is right on the Main Street of Sedona and the pickup place is just a short walk away. I was on a bus tour which let us out right in front of the office. I ran in and asked for the bumpiest ride that afternoon. We went up to a wonderful Canyon overlook off Shibley's Road (might have the name wrong) and had a great driver who knew all about the flora and fauna. We also parked to take a short steep hike. The jeep carries drinking water. I think the off road part and seeing what the jeep can do is part of the thrill but I told my traveling companion with a lot of back and health problems not to attempt the ride. Sitting in the front passenger seat, I might not have felt the bumps as much as those in the back but I didn't think the ride was all that bumpy. I thought we had a great driver, Hal, who was also very congenial. Just to be on the safe side, I would not attempt the ride if you have any kind of back problems. You will also have to be able to get in and out of the jeep. I don't recall that it was very high off the ground but it may have had a lift kit. All 4WD vehicles are going to be higher off the ground than a regular car. I thought the ride was well worth the money.

You have a wide range of choices. There are several companies, with the two most popular being Pink Jeep and Red Rock Jeep. And then each company offers a complete menu of tours. Since we only had time for one tour, we opted for the Pink Jeep's Broken Arrow Tour, which seems to be most popular. It's two hours long and they picked us up from our hotel. We were very pleased with it, and it was the highlight of our trip. Yes, it can be bumpy, but not unnecessarily so. If you google the companies you can find all the different trips offered.

We did a Pink Jeep Tour a few years ago and it will never be forgotten...it was a great & fun experience. The tour guides definitely know "their stuff" and it's agreed that it is very bumpy and a wild ride, but that was the great adventure of it. There is little serious hiking on the tour, but they do take you out on the rocks...make sure you don't go in August/September during tarantula mating season if you are at all arachniphobic!!! Gross.
Anyway, do it. It was a blast.
