inexpensive take out places on las vegas
I can only take so much buffet and sit-down dinners for 2 weeks in las vegas, and I see a lot of great suggestions for fancy places to eat in this forum. but are there any inexpensive places in las vegas for take-out dinners other than the fast food chains of burgers, pizza, fried chicken, etc ? I was impressed by the variety of delis, indian, chinese, mexican, and other ethnic take-out food in NY city and was wondering if las vegas has similar ones that is close to the strip. thanks.

I attempted to have a take-out twice, and both times I went through quetioning comparable probably to FBI interrogation - why is it I want food to go? Maybe I'm just trying to avoid 15% room service charges? I just gave up and went to fast foods.

My 1st question to you is why on earth would you want to spend 2 wks there? I love LV, go there just about every 9 months, but usually for 3-4 nites max. Waay to much time to spend in just one place.

There is a Japanese place in the bottom of Bally's (near where you get off the monorail from MGM) that has take out--also can have a good sit-down dinner there. Very reasonably priced for Las Vegas. (I don't as a general rule do buffets.)

Check out the yellow pages, there are many Chinese take out close to the strip. I agree you can only eat so many buffets
the 2 weeks is not exactly a holiday.

There's a good Chinese food restaurant/takeout in a shopping center on the strip called, I think, "Gold Key" shops. If by takeout, you mean calling for delivery to one of those huge hotels, you might have a problem. I think you might want "carry in" instead. Ask the concierge at the hotel. Or maybe the hotel's restaurants can do "to go".

Banares:
If this is not a vacation stay, I would then highly recommend staying at a hotel that includes a kitchen, such as Residence in or a suite-type hotel. then you can prepare simple meals, and feel more like you are at home, as opposed to always having to eat out. By the same token, your living quarters will be more like an apartment; you'll have a table to eat/work at, and a living room set-up, so you'll have someplace to sit other than the bed - which gets REAL tired after a couple of nights. That's the whole idea behind these extended stay
hotels. Many of these hotels offer evening cocktails & hors d'vorhes. Some even offer free light dinners.
many have free

Nick's on the Strip, between Aladdin and MGM, has pizza and italian.

In the Showcase mall next to MGM, there is a soul food place called Big Mama's, and a couple sandwich places I think. Stage Deli in Caesar's Forum Mall does take out, and the Fashion Show Mall next to Treasure Island has a food court and lots of choices.

Bugsy's at Flamingo has sandwiches and salads after 11, and breakfast 7-11. Their smoked salmon plate is unbelievable, so much lox - enough for 3 bagels! And it's inexpensive and fresh.

thanks for all your suggestions.

Just saw a "Best Hotdogs in the US" on PBS and they featured Slots of Fun on the strip near circus circus. Cheap and huge hotdogs with everything on it you can imagine. I think it was foot long including the bun all for .99.
|
thanks. I will definitely check out this US best hot dog.

Dona Maria's Tamales are great. The restaurant is midway between the Strip and dowtown, they do take outs as well, very reasonable.
|
keep your suggestions coming. this is great. thanks.

I have not been to this place but remember reading a review of it in my Gourmet magazine. Lotus of Siam is a Thai place off the strip and Gourmet calls is the best Thai restaurant in the country. It is also very reasonably priced and sounds delicious. Next time I'm in Vegas, I plan to check it out.

Try Capriotti's on W. Sahara Ave., right off the strip. They have huge, delicious sandwiches and subs at a great price. The place looks like a dive but the food was great. Watch out for their sizes as my wife and I found out that a large sub there is 18". It was huge!

Enjoy!
