Inexpensive hotel - along Hwy 26 between Columbia & Charleston

We're enroute to Charleston SC from TN and expect to get at least as far as Columbia, but preferably further south -- maybe Orangeburg or even further southeast. Anyone have any suggestions for an inexpensive hotel/motel along this route (Highway 26) -- just want clean, comfortable and quiet. Want to pay $70 or less.

Where in TN are you coming from? Can't make it another 1.5 hours to Charleston?

This site may be helpful.

I agree. I'd probably go on into Charleston.

no we cant we have places along the way we're stopping, so an extra hour or so would get us in to Charleston later than we would like. We have reservations in Charleston starting Monday, but decided at the last minute to head there a day early. . Since it's Memorial day weekend and Spoleto, it'd probably be slim pickings in Charleston without a reservation. we would rather stay at an inexpensive place on the way there and do the rest of the drive in the morning.
Starrs - thanks for the link. will check it out.

Many gas stations and tourist information centers carry a little green book called 'Room Savers' it gives coupons for hotels/motels. Or, you can download from your computer if traveling if you have a printer: http://www.roomsaver.com/
We use this often when doing road trips and just want someplace for the night. You can get a room for $40-70 when using the coupons.

go to freetrip.com and enter your starting point and Charleston. Then scroll down to hotels and check off the price range you want.

It will list hotels all along the way and you will have many to choose from. You do not have to make reservations through FT.

I know it is further from Charleston than you want, but there is a brand new Holiday Inn Express off of Exit 76 (or is it 74) right off I-26 at Newberry SC.

Be careful. Some places on the interstate are dicey. Hampton Inns have never disappointed me.
