Great info! I wasn't exactly looking for restaurant info quite yet but couldn't resist reading this thread when I found it.

One question: Are places all open July 4th, or will it be harder to find a place to eat?

Restaurants and bars will all be open on the 4th and packed, especially downtown. Bookings for popular places will be hard to get. Groceries might have shortened hours - I don't remember. There are probably a 100 restaurants in Penn Quarter, all types and price levels, which is a 10 minute walk from the National Gallery & Natural History side of the National Mall.

I'll add my enthusiasm for Paul and Teaism mentioned above.

We're headed to DC on the 27th, so this thread has been very helpful.

Our Rep's office got us, oh, every tour we had hoped for, but three are on the same day! Library of Congress at 8:30, then off to the White House at 11:00, then BACK to the Supreme Court at 2:00. Yeesh! No purse that day, just a wallet and iPhone. I told Hubby we deserve a NICE dinner that night.

We have a tour of the Capitol the next day, at 3:30 beginning and ending at our Rep's office in the Longworth Building. Any ideas how long such a tour is? The museums are supposed to be open late and we hope to hit one afterwards--or meet-up with people from another Board if people can make it.
