Inexpensive accomodations in Philly?
Never having been to Philadelphia, I am considering visiting this city the week of April 19 for a couple of days. Although I can find a lot of info here about places to see, great food and such, there is very little recent information on accommodations.
Can anyone here recommend a modestly priced hotel or bed and breakfast in or near the city center that is clean and safe and doesn't charge an arm and a leg for a single traveler? Or is this the time when every conventioneer in the US descends on the city of brotherly love? Thanks!! |
There was a promotion at a lot of the down town hotels to stay one night and get one night free. I don't know if it's still on. Go to www.gophila.com for a lot of info on hotels and the city.

rebecka - another option is to use Priceline. I got a great rate in the Sheraton downtown for $70 last summer on Priceline, and the location was perfect.

Check www.biddingfortravel.com before placing your Priceline bids. It will give you a good idea of how much to bid.
You can even register for free and get personalized bidding advice. |
The promotion which schmerl is referring to ended on March 30th. Some reasonalbe accomodations in downtown are the Holiday Inn Express Midtown, Holoiday Inn Independence Mall, and the Best Western Independence Park Hotel. Even though the one night free offer has expired, when you call the hotel's direct line, do ask if there are any specials available, because they will not volunteer the information. You can find more information on hotels at www.philadelphia.citysearch.com
Priceline.com is also a good way to go. |
Thank you all for the advice! I have used Priceline for a London hotel and was very satisfied. However, I don't know Philly as well as I do London, which may make using Priceline a bit riskier. But I will explore my options.
