Indianapolis downtown restaurant suggestion

Last minute plans put us in Indy tomorrow night. I eat seafood, but no other meat- so no steak houses! Like Thai and eclectic places- love good wines and great wine lists. Daughter will be at concert at Murat center, so we need to stay in downtown area. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

The Oceanaire Seafood Room - located downtown - Excellent!

With your daughter at the Murat there are a few options on the same street Massachusetts Avenue, "Mass. Ave." to the locals.

Agio - www.agiorestaurant.net

Billed as "American Eclectic" their food leans a little to Italian. I've had some excellent meals there. The outdoor patio is very nice in pleasant weather.

R's Bistro - www.rbistro.com

Regina (the "R" in the bistro) likes to serve reasonably sized portions so a diner can actually eat dessert for a change. With only a beer and wine license I like to eat there. She changes the menu every week to reflect available products and seasons. If you love something on the menu you'll have to find out when it'll be on next or come back the next night.

After a few people gave me the "not getting my money's worth" speech I have to be careful who I take to this place. Mainly because I retaliate with the "haven't you gotten your money's worth more than enough times" speech. :-)

Elements - 415 N. Alabama St

New, rave reviews, I still haven't eaten here yet. It's served in the small-plates style for sharing and leans towards seafood. Supposed to have a good wine list too.

Scholar's Inn - www.scholarsinn.com

Mixed menu of some beef, pork and seafood. Pretty interior with very good food. One of the best Sunday brunches around. The real Sunday brunch too. The one with a special menu. Not a buffet.

Thanks so much! I looked at a few reviews of several of these places and we chose Elements. Love the small plates- we do that a lot when we travel to CA. We have a 7 pm reservation- I'll write a review Saturday!

I'd really appreciate that LLindaC. There just isn't much on the web about them.

If you're done with dinner before the show is over at the Murat, the Rathskellar is catty-corner across the street from it.

It's an old German Gast Haus that has a German restaurant and bar in it. Lot's of wonderful German beers in bottles and on tap. There's live music on the weekends too. No cover. If it's pleasant go outside to the beer garden. They have a brick fireplace going. The views of the Indy skyline are pretty too.

Great! That sounds like fun! I was trying to find a website for Elements, but I can't. I like to check out wine lists ahead of time and do a little research.

I couldn't find a web site for Elements. If you call them maybe they'll fax you a wine list? Especially since you already have a reservation.

Linda, where are you coming from? If not from around here, I hope you know it is freezing and dress warmly. It was in the 60's 2 days ago, but in teens now.

Thought of this because Indytravel mentioned the outdoor BierGarten at the Atheneum (Rathskeller.) Brrr! Go inside anyway. It is a Historic Register building and interesting to look around. Kurt Vonnegut's grandfather was the architect. (Try not to look at the dead animals heads on the walls if that creeps you out.)

Thanks! I'm from Louisville and I'm freezing here, too! LOL- I was playing piano at the Hyatt a couple years ago and ran into Kurt Vonnegut in the hall. I turned into a blithering idiot....duh. I love him!
