Indianapolis Airport- transportation choice from there

My husband and son will be flying into Indianapolis Airport on a weekday midafternoon and need to get to an address about 19-20 miles away (not a hotel). Would they be better off taking a taxi or going with a transportation service? They will have very little luggage and just need basic transportation. If a transportation service is more cost effective, can anyone suggest one? I noticed some names on the airport website, but they are all unfamiliar to us. Thanks for your input!

I think they would be better off renting a car.

I just rented a car there,it was cheap and easy.

Thank you so much for your replies. The problem is that my son's car is at that destination 19-20 miles away and this time there is no one to pick them up. I just wondered if taxi charges would be outrageous. Your thoughts are appreciated!

mma, I have no experience with cabs/shuttles in Indy since I always drive to visit. Airport website mentions a $15 minimum charge. I looked online and one cab company had this information:

Taxi fare is determined by meter. The City of Indianapolis sets meter rates, which are $2 per mile plus 40¢ per minute waiting time and 65¢ per each additional passenger.

Special rates apply during race times which include the F1, Brickyard and Indy 500.

Flat rates apply to certain areas outside of the city.

If you google for Indy cab companies you get a listing and phone numbers. Good luck.

Once they get off the plane, go to the "transportation center" and there are several car services that you can either pre-reserve or just get a ride then - I've never waited more than 10-15 minutes without a reservation. This is generally cheaper than a taxi.
