Indian Rocks Beach
Florida: My wife and I are visiting for a week mid NOv, staying at Granger House at Indian Rocks. Is anyone familiar with the place? Any recommendations on places to eat, etc. How about getting from the Tampa airport to Indian Rocks, any public transportation besides taxi ? Any other ideas or info would be helpful. Thanks

I haven't been there in a few years but Salt Rock Grille was very good last time I was there.

I agree that Salt Rock Grill is a great place. Their sister restaurant is north in Clearwater Beach called Island Way Grill, another great place. There really isn't any public transportation from the airport to Indian Rocks. You may want to check with the hotel about airport shuttle services. Once on the beach, there is a trolley that travels the coast that is handy. Here is the website about the trolley: http://www.psta.net/beachtrolley.htm. John's Pass Village is a nice place to stroll around too. Again, here is the website http://www.johnspass.com/johnspass.cfm. I hope you have a great time!

try the Tampa airport website and click on ground transportation....there are shuttles you can take around the whole area...but you may have some other stops along the way.....

You might want to rent a car. There is generally plenty of free parking. When you consider that the ride from Tampa airport and back will most likely run you $100 for both ways, that's $100 you could apply to a one-week car rental. The beach shuttle takes you up and down the beach so you'd have no problems if that's all you want to do.
The downside of car rental now in Florida is that there are few cars, according to a friend who was in town last weekend. I think that is because of the lingering needs (insurance agents, builders, etc. in town) here from the hurricanes that hit us. So be sure to book ahead. Friends of mine like Slammers, a casual crab restaurant. I think I know the place where you're staying but I've not stayed there. Their web site does not have a big exterior photo that I can find. It looks great. Hope you enjoy your stay. Indian Rocks has a lot of shops and shopping, a fun place. |
