Indian restaurant recommendation in Jackson Heights, Queens?
 

We're planning a visit to MoMA-Queens, and wanted to go from there to the Jackson Heights area for lunch and shopping in Little India (is that what it's called? I don't mean to be insulting.). Someone on this forum recommended that area (74th St?).<BR><BR>Any recommendations? <BR><BR>Looking at the subway map, it appears that coming from the UWS we would take the 1 or 3 train to Times Sq, transfer to the #7 local, and get off at 33rd St. for MoMa. Then back on the #7 to the 74th St. stop. Is this right?

I lack the knowledge of that area to be able to assist but suggest that you try posting the query at www.chowhound.com in the NYC forum. Lots of NYC food and dining buffs there - you'll get the subway info you need and also some excellent restaurant recommendations.

Jackson Diner is pretty good. It's at 37-47 74th Street, a block or two from the #7. <BR><BR>You can also get the E, F &amp; V trains downstairs from the 7.

Depending on where you get on the subway, the 1 and 9 trains are options to get from UWS to 42nd Street. If you are leaving from 72nd Street or 96th St. on the UWS then you can take the 1,9, 2, or 3 trains to 42nd street. <BR>Transfer at 42nd to the 7 train.<BR>I have also been to Jackson Diner, but would be interested in hearing from others on their favorites.

Thanks to Owen for the chowhound.com tip; I had forgotten about that site. I looked at it briefly and will spend more time there later; a place named &quot;Sajna&quot; was getting some good raves. Also the Jackson Diner was mentioned.<BR><BR>As with almost any restaurant, there were both good and bad reviews. I just thought that if Little India was a good place for shopping (we're trying to add to our small Ganesha collection), it would be a good place to eat!<BR><BR>We love Indian food (well, actually, we love just about ALL food...), but maybe there's a better place for lunch after a trip to MoMA? Greek?<BR><BR>Thanks for the subway info; we'll be coming from the 72nd St station with 2-3 people in their 70s, so I want to be sure we get it right. I don't really care if I get on the wrong train--it's easily correctable--but we don't want to make them hoof it too much.
