In Seattle for 2 nights

I suddenly found myself in Seattle for two nights. I fly in sunday afternoon, have an interview during the morning and afternoon and fly out on tuesday morning. I am looking for cool things to and possible someone to do them with. Any suggestions?

Are you staying right downtown? Just on foot you can easily go to the Pike Place Market, the Waterfront, and Pioneer Square historic district. Smith Tower has a great observations deck, and the waterfall park (both in Pioneer Square). If you want to go up the Space Needle, take the monorail from downtown out to the Seattle Center. Seattle Art Museum is right downtown and has evening hours.

For a nice dinner Dahlia Lounge, Lola's, Etta's Seafood, Serious Pie (all Tom Douglas places) are all great. Or Steelhead Diner, Matt's at the Market, Cafe Campagne, are all nice. For more casual/cheaper Mama's Mexican Kitchen is fun.

I see this is your first post. I think you'll find what you're looking for leaning against a lamppost in or near the Pike Place Market or in The Stranger personal ads: http://www.thestranger.com/personals/

Too funny HTTY, ROFL :-)

Hi Suze,

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, I'll be staying in the downtown area at hotel andra.

HTTY,

Heh, thanks for the suggestion of the personals, but truthfully I'm looking for people who want to go out and enjoy the city, and talk to them about seattle, but if I do get "lonely" I guess I know where to look now. When I've traveled internationally, I've found that finding a local is the best way to get to know a place.

Hotel Andrea is great!! And several of the restaurant I like are on the same block. Lola's is actually IN your hotel. Dahlia Lounge, Dahlia Bakery (great for breakfast and lunch to-go), Serious Pie across the street. Assagio's is a very good Italian place same block.

As far as meeting locals maybe some of the bars in Belltown (the area you are staying). Places like the Whiskey Bar, Two Bells Tavern, Belltown Billards, Frontier Room, Black Bottle you could probably find people to chat with.

For music you can check if anyone is playing at Crocodile, Jazz Alley, Tula's, Triple Door on your free nights.

When I've traveled internationally, I've found that finding a local is the best way to get to know a place.

But this forum is an unlikely place to find somebody to bum around with while you're in town, which is why I gave you a link to a place where you can find locals who are also looking for companionship.

HTTY- I don't get the impression he's looking for THAT kind of companionship, like the kind you'd find in the back of The Stranger. You're hardly making this a very good 1st impression to Fodor's forums.

Maybe The Stranger has changed. I made some pretty good hookups with it twenty years ago.

"Maybe"? Have you read The Stranger lately? You might want to grab a recent issue before recommending the idea (haha).

Thanks for the report. As I read it, lyrics from "Wonderful Town" came to mind:

A town's a lonely town,
When you pass through
And there is no one waiting there for you,
Then it's a lonely town.
You wander up and down,
The crowds rush by,
A million faces pass before your eye,
Still it's a lonely town.

Unless there's love,
A love that's shining like a harbor light,
You're lost in the night;
Unless there's love,
The world's an empty place
And every town's a lonely town.

Well, I'm not certain what about my report got my post removed. I am guessing it was either the vulgar language or the reference to drugs. If anyone else is interested in my trip report, I posted it on several other sites such as trip advisor

I read it on TA, I sure don't get what about that report would have gotten it removed from Fodor's.

They removed someone's complaint about the Moore Hotel this week as well, that I didn't understand why.

Neither of them broke forum guidelines as written by HTTY above.

Maybe you looked like a tourist (only sort of kidding). I work in that area downtown and am there everyday. No one ever offers to sell me drugs. Neumos and Crocodile were a good call.

happytrailstoyou Nov 7th, 2010 05:54 AM

Maybe it was the F-Bomb used to denote sexual intercourse.

suze Nov 7th, 2010 06:41 AM

Then it was a different report than the one I read.
