In need of a scenic/interesting stop between Philly and Johnstown, PA

We will be driving from Phily to Johnstown, PA on Monday. There will be 5 of us crammed in the car and I'm looking for an easy, interesting stop somewhere along the way.

I have told DH no historic battlefields (his obsession) - looking for something quick (don't want to take too long).

Any suggestions?

I can't think of much. There is a small Civil War museum in Harrisburg.

Two suggestions:
1. Pennsylvania Dutch country somewhere around Lancaster;
2. Gettysburg

Both may cause you small detours in one direction or the other, and there is no one particular interesting place to see in these areas as it really is the whole area that is of interest, but I think you can probably find something worthy of a stop in either place.

Thanks!

The Penn Dutch country might be something to check out. If nothing else, we'll just drive and stop if we see something interesting along the way.

Once you get off the turnpike at Bedford, you could visit some of that area's attractions such as:

SusieQQ - that's actually something we've already done as most of DH's family came from the Bedford area! But thanks for the reminder = I had forgotten how neat a little town it was.

Grcxx3, Since I'm from Johnstown originally, I've driven that part of the turnpike probably a zillion times, but we just wanted to get it over with so didn't stop.
You might want to check and see if there is anything interesting in Harrisburg...since it is located right along the turnpike.

SusieQQ - I think we'll just keep cruising. We won't have much time to see the family in Johnstown - and there is a restaurant I really want to go to and that might be our only chance.
