In Need of a Hawaiian Playlist for an Upcoming Trip!

My parents and I are less than 2 weeks from a trip to Maui and the Big Island. While on the Big Island, we'll be renting a boat (privately) for a day. I just purchased a portable speaker set for my iPod and am now trying to find some music that will set the Hawaiian mood. What are your Hawaiian favorites?

Any IZ cd, but this one especially
http://www.amazon.com/Alone-IZ-World.../dp/B00005O4UG
for "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

There's a big thread on Hawaiian music somewhere in the Hawaii folder. You'll find tons of recommendations there.

I'm not an expert, but Willie K, with or without Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, is great.

Jack Johnson!! Always puts me in a beach mood, especially for his home state :)

Also good -- "Blue Hawaii" (I like it best as an instrumental) and if you're a LOST fan, Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade."

I can't find the thread that gyppielou is referring to. the search function is less than reliable.

Anyhow, I would include all of Hapa's first album on your playlist. Barefoot Natives is another group that is all over my Hawaiian playlist.

Here's iamq's music thread that's very good:

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions...and also the link! (The less than ideal search only grabbed radio stations and concerts for me).

Mahalo!

hi beanweb~ Once you're there, don't overlook the local radio stations (not for your boat day or ipod obviously). Just in hotel rooms I've heard some great stuff, using either the TV or clock radio!

Thanks Suzie for finding it!

Yes, definitely Jack Johnson, but I also enjoy Manoa DNA, too.

Aloha,
Julia

Well done Suzie,

I like the National Geographic Destination mix and have given it as gifts.

Although not Hawaiian, I always travel with the soundtracks to

Garden State and A Broke Down Melody and some Jack Johnson.

Anything else is taken care of on island with the radio stations, and the rest of our cd's or ipod selections.

LOL you guys. You are so right. It wasn't easy to find. I had to follow several links but they finally led right to iamq's great thread!!! Must say something about my free time! :-d

In additon to artists already mentioned we enjoy the fun upbeat group Kapena and the beautiful island melodies of Brad White on panflute.

Hi Melissa -

thanks for the link...the article seems to still be available, but I don't see anything for music downloads. I'll keep searching!
